Luke Guthrie

Took up golf at a young age, has loved the game ever since he picked up his first golf club. While studying Business Management at the University of Illinois, Guthrie had one of the most celebrated collegiate golf careers in history. In addition to receiving multiple All-American honors, Luke was recognized as the 2012 Big 10 Player of the Year. Guthrie earned these honors by becoming a seven-time collegiate champion and notching back-to-back Big 10 Individual Championships. Luke was the first player to earn back-to-back Big 10 Individual titles since Luke Donald in 2000-01.
It didn't take long for Guthrie to make a mark for himself when he turned professional. He did that after the 2012 NCAA's in Los Angeles and got an exemption into the FedEx St. Jude Classic where he finished tied for 19th. It was his second start in a professional event. He missed the cut in the Web.Com's Children's Invitational in 2011. The next month was even better. At the John Deere Classic, he shot Sunday's low round score of 64 to finish tied for 5th. Guthrie's performance at the John Deere Classic got him into the next week's event at the True South where he finished tied for 18th. Guthrie lucked out when Dylan Fritelli withdrew at the last minute at the Web.Com Tour's Children's Hospital Invitational, giving the spot to Guthrie. He had a great week, making a birdie on his 72nd hole for a 12-under par total. Was forced into a playoff when Ben Kohles made a short birdie at the final hole and then lost the playoff when Kohles made a 22-foot birdie putt on the first playoff hole. His runner-up finish was worth $86,400 and was enough to earn Special Temporary Membership onto the Web.Com Tour and vaulted him to No. 33 on the season money list. He finished in the top-10 in three of his next four starts, then won the Albertsons Boise Open and the WNB Golf Classic. Closed the year with a tie for 9th at the Web.com Tour Championship, his seventh top-10 effort of the short 10 event season. Total earnings of $410,593 are the 13th best single-season haul in Web.Com Tour history. His average earnings per event of $41,059 are the second-highest in Tour history, trailing only Michael Sim's average of $46,010 in 2009. With his great play the last half of the year, Guthrie earned his PGA Tour card for 2013.
His brother Zach resigned as the assistant golf coach at the University of Illinois so he could caddie full time for Luke during his rookie season in 2013. He missed the cut in his first event at the Sony Open. Got hot when the tour moved to Florida however. Held the second and third-round leads at The Honda Classic before a 3-over 73 on a wind-blown Sunday at the PGA National Golf Club which resulted in a third-place finish, his best PGA Tour performance and marked his fifth top-30 in seven starts. Added another top-10 at Zurich Classic when he finished T-8th. Finished the year 90th in the FedExCup Playoffs and 83 on the money list.
2014 Notes: Played in 26 PGA Tour events making 18 cuts with two top-tens. T-5th at the Shriners Hospitals where he shot a final round 64 and T-8th at the Memorial. Finished 106th in the final FedExCup standings.
2015 Notes: Played in 27 PGA Tour events making 15 cuts with one top-ten. Was T-7th at the Valspar Championship. Missed the FedExCup Playoffs for the first time in three seasons as he was 148th in the rankings. Missed the cut in his first three Web.Com playoff starts, but finished T-10th at the Web.Com Tour Championship to earn $26,000 and finish 63rd in the priority ranking.
2016 Notes: Played in 19 PGA Tour events making 9 cuts with one top-ten. That was in the first event of the year, T-10th at the Frys.Com Open. Was 175th in the FedExCup standings, in the Web.Com Tour finals was 78th in the rankings and 89th in the Priority Rank. At Web.Com Tour Q-School was T-23rd.
