Seamus Power

Power was born and raised in Waterford, Ireland. He grew up on his family's farm, and when he was 8, his mother passed away. He was raised with his two brothers by his father, Ned, who raised cattle and sheep, but the farm provided a modest income. Three years after his mother passed away, Power took up playing golf, and to help pay the bills, Ned took a second job.
Seamus played golf for his high school team, and when he graduated in 2006, he was trying to attend a college in the United States. Power had written letters to colleges in America and did not receive encouraging responses. So he was ready for Plan B, which was to take accounting courses at a university in Ireland. He got lucky with an offer from East Tennessee State coach Fred Warren, who saw Power play at the European Boy's team Championship in Italy. Warren liked what he saw in Power but would sign Rory McIlroy, who originally signed a letter of intent to play at East Tennessee State. But Rory decided instead to turn professional. So Warren offered Power a partial scholarship.
At the age of 19, with not much money in his pocket and no telephone, he was on a plane to America and Johnson City, Tennessee. Coach Warren met Power at the airport, and everything was set in motion. Even though he worked hard in Tennessee, winning five events, including the Atlantic Sun Conference Championship twice, Power did not become a star. Not until his senior year did he decide that he would turn pro. His last semester of college golf was his best. After four years at East Tennessee State, he graduated with an accounting degree but felt he could make a living as a professional. He lacked resources, but some members at his West Waterford club said they would finance him. He tried to qualify for the Korn Ferry Tour but didn't make it, so he played in several mini-tour events. In 2014 he won twice on the eGolf Tour and was the leading money winner. At the end of the year, he finished T-5th at the Korn Ferry Tour Q-School, thus getting his card to play on the Korn Ferry Tour in 2015.

2016 Korn Ferry Tour Summary: Tournaments Entered - 21; Rounds Played - 72; In Money - 15; Top-10 Finishes - 3; Scoring Average - 69.78 (Rank T-28th); Regular Season Money - $209,590 (Rank 9th); Playoff Money - $14,500 (Rank 52nd); Priority Rank - 22; Best Finish - Winner United Leasing & Finance. He became the first Irish winner on the Korn Ferry Tour. His ninth-place finish on the regular-season money list earned one of the 25 PGA Tour cards for 2017. Represented Ireland and finished T-15th when golf returned to the Olympics for the first time in the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.
2017 notes: Played in 25 PGA Tour events making 19 cuts with one top-ten finish. His best finish was T-10th at the RBC Canadian Open. He finished 130th in the FedExCup standings, so he had to return to the Korn Ferry Finals. In the Korn Ferry Tour Finals, he was 32nd on the money list with $40,625, and with his 50th-place finish in the priority rank, he regained his PGA Tour card.
2018 Notes: Played in 28 PGA Tour events making 15 cuts with two top-ten finishes. He was 114th in the FedExCup standings. Was T-5th at the Corales Puntacana Resort Championship. He also was T-10th at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans with partner David Hearn.
2019 Notes: Played in 27 PGA Tour events making 13 cuts with two top-ten finishes. Best finish T-5th at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans with partner David Hearn, also T-6th at the RBC Heritage, three shots back of winner C.T. Pan. He played in three events at the Korn Ferry Finals but missed the cut in two of them.
2020 Notes: Played in 11 PGA Tour events making seven cuts and one top-ten finish, T-9th at the Barracuda Championship. He struggled with a worn-out elbow, but because of COVID, he couldn't get it operated on and played for 12 months in pain.
2021 Notes: Played in 17 PGA Tour events making 12 cuts with four top-ten finishes. He was 72nd in the FedExCup standings. He started the season poorly, missing the cut at Safeway and Corales, and was T-37th at the Bermuda Championship. After that had his elbow surgery. During the time that he couldn't play, he visited Dr. Bob Rotella, who got Power to relax and gave him a sense of confidence. He was able to return for the Sony Open and missed three cuts in a row. Power continued working with Rotella, and things got better in April. He finished T-9th at the Korn Ferry MGM Resorts Championship at Paiute. Then he was T-9th at the AT&T Byron Nelson, T-8th at the Rocket Mortgage Classic, and T-8th at the John Deere. At the Barbasol Championship, he got lucky when J.T. Poston blew a sizeable lead down the stretch and got into a playoff with Poston. Won the playoff with a par on the sixth extra hole. In the FedExCup playoffs was T-31st at the Northern Trust.
2022 Notes: Played in 26 PGA Tour events making 16 cuts with five top-ten finishes. He was 43rd in the FedExCup standings. He finished T-4th at the RSM Classic. After finishing T-15th at the Sentry Tournament of Champions was T-3rd at the Sony Open. He shot 65-65 over the weekend and was four shots out of the Matsuyama/Henley playoff. After rounds of 64-64 to lead after the second round of the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-am, shot 74-72 on the weekend to finish T-9th six back of winner Tom Hoge. He finished T-5th at the WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play, losing to eventual champion Scottie Scheffler in the quarterfinals after beating Tyrell Hatton in the Round of 16. He was T-9th at the PGA Championship, four shots back of the Justin Thomas/Will Zalatoris playoff. He was T-12th at the U.S. Open. In the FedExCup playoffs missed the cut at the Fed Ex St. Jude Championship and was 65th at the BMW Championship.
2023 Notes: Won the Bermuda Championship by a shot over Thomas Detry, earning his second PGA Tour title. He entered the final round tied for the lead with Ben Griffin before shooting a 1-under 71, becoming the first 54-hole leader/co-leader in the four-year history to win the event. The following week he finished T-3rd at the World Wide Technology Championship at Mayakoba, five shots back of winner Russell Henley. Shot 67-66 over the weekend at the RSM Classic to finish T-5th, four back of winner Adam Svensson. Best finish since, T-13th at the John Deere Classic.
