Lucas Bjerregaard

Bjerregaard's family always wanted him to play hockey because the sport is a favorite on his mother's side of the family. He started playing hockey at age 2 and was coached by his grandfather who led the league team. At 7, he decided hockey was not for him. Bjerregaard began playing several sports but was unable to find one where he excelled. His father started playing golf, and in 2001, Bjerregaard joined him at age 10 at the Frederikshavn Golf Club, where he still plays.
Bjerregaard won the European Amateur Championship in Finland in 2010, becoming only the second Danish player to capture the title. He shot a final-round 70 for a 15-under 273 total to edge Tommy Fleetwood of England and Andrea Pavan of Italy by one shot.
He broke through to the European Tour after claiming the 21st card in the tour's 2013 Qualifying School Final Stage. As a rookie on the Challenge Tour in 2012, he finished 34th in the rankings, thanks in part to a second-place result at the National Bank of Oman Golf Classic. A T-18th the following week at the Dubai Festival City Challenge Tour Grand Final sent him to the Qualifying School Final in good form, and he subsequently joined Danish compatriot Andreas Harto in earning a spot on the 2014 European Tour. Professional career highlights include winning the Nordic League in 2012 and in the same season picking up the ECCO Tour Player of the Year trophy.
2014 Notes: Earned three top-10 finishes in his rookie season on the European Tour: T-9th at Africa Open, T-5th at Hong Kong Open, T-4th at Handa Perth International. He finished 90th in the Race to Dubai.
2015 Notes: Played 33 European Tour events, making 18 cuts and finishing in the top 10, five times. His best finish was 2nd at the UBS Hong Kong Open and he ranked 34th in the Race to Dubai.
2016 Notes: Played 29 European Tour events, making 16 cuts. Posted one top-10, a T-3rd at the Volvo China Open. Finished the year 74th in the Race to Dubai.
2017 Notes: Played 28 European Tour events, making 21 cuts. Won for the first time at the Portugal Masters. He had four top-10 results and finished 57th in the Race to Dubai.
2018 Notes: Played 27 European Tour events and made 20 cuts. Posted a career-best 10 top-10 finishes, including a one-shot win over Tommy Fleetwood and Tyrrell Hatton at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship. Finished 13th in the Race to Dubai and won a career-best euro2,168,945. With his win at St. Andrews, a T-9th at the Sky Sports British Masters, T-5th at the Turkish Airlines Open and T-11th at the Nedbank Golf Challenge, Bjerregaard ended the year 45th in the Official World Golf Ranking which will open the doors to more marquee events, including the Masters.
2019 Notes: Played in 20 European Tour events making 13 cuts with one top-ten finish. He finished 56th in the Race to Dubai with winnings of euro1,112,553. Was T-12th at the Honda Classic. Finished 4th at the WGC-Dell Match Play, he gained worldwide attention in this event as he won his group, then on Saturday beat British Open champion Henrik Stenson and then in the afternoon beat Tiger Woods 1 up. Won two of the last three holes with an eagle-birdie-par finish for the 1 up win over Woods. Lost to Matt Kuchar, 1-up, in the Semifinals and was defeated by Francesco Molinari, 4 and 2, in the Consolation Match. After that, his best finish of the year was T-16th at the PGA Championship and the British Open. Bjerregaard won 394 FedEx points which would have placed him in the top-125 point list so it gets him an exemption on the PGA Tour for 2020.
