Was medalist after shooting a 1-over-par 71 at The Homestead's Cascades Course in Hot Springs, Ark., to qualify for the 2012 U.S. Senior Open.
He is participating in his first U.S. Senior Open. During his qualifying, he hit 16 greens and still pared the two he missed. Won two Virginia Mid-Amateur titles. Won two Virginia State Four Ball Championships. Won the Middle Atlantic Amateur. Won the National Senior Junior. Played in the 2002 and 2000 U.S. Mid-Amateur and once in the British Mid-Amateur. His last victory came at the Championship Course at Newport News Golf Club when he won the 1994 Newport News Amateurs. He won the 1992 Virginia State Amateur Championship. Shot well in the 2012 U.S. Amateur qualifying rounds, 73-77. Finished fourth at the prestigious Valentine Invitational in Richmond, Va., with rounds of 72-70. His wife is Pam, and they have two children: their son Michael, 20, and daughter Morgan, 19. Michael will be his caddy for the week.
