Becky Brewerton

Started playing golf at 12 years old and since then dreamed of being a golf pro. Enjoyed a nice amateur career, winning the Welsh Girls Championship in 1997 and 1998. Welsh Ladies Champion 1999 and 2001. British Ladies Open amateur strokeplay champion 1999 and 2002. European Ladies Open Champion 2002. Curtis Cup player 2000. Vagliano Trophy 2001 and 2003. World Team Championship 2002.
Invited to play in two Ladies European Tour events after turning pro, the first at the 2003 Tenerife Ladies Open, where she finished second. In her next event, the Wales WPGA Championship of Europe, she almost pulled off a spectacular victory with a 70 in the final round but lost out when Shani Waugh holed from fully 74 feet on the final green to deny her becoming the first amateur in 19 years to win on Tour. She lost out on 55,000 euros ($75,000) because she was still an amateur.
Turned professional in 2004 and has played on the Ladies European Tour since.
In 2009, Becky enjoyed her most successful year-to-date on tour. She finished 3rd on the Money List with season's earnings of Euros 221,496 ($301,456) and was first on the exemption list, which earned her exemptions to the Kraft Nabisco Championship, the U.S. Open, and Evian Masters in 2010. She secured her second LET title with a six-stroke victory at the Open de Espana Femenino, which earned her a place at the Evian Masters in France the following week. At the Evian Masters, Brewerton held a share of the lead for the first three days before finishing T-13r
th. She recorded eight additional top 10 finishes: 2nd at the Tenerife Ladies Open, T-3rd at the Portugal Ladies Open, Finnair Masters, and Randstad Open de France Dames; 4th at the Wales Ladies Championship, and T-4th at the ABN AMRO Ladies Open, tied 6th at the Carta Ladies Italian Open and T-10th at the AIB Ladies Irish Open. She also made her second appearance as a member of the European Solheim Cup team at Rich Harvest Farms in Illinois and had a 2-2-0 record, she lost her singles match to Angela Stanford 5 & 4.
She was successful in 2011, playing 24 events and finishing 13th on the Henderson Monday list with Euro124,008. Her best finish was T-2nd at the Turkish Airlines Ladies Open, it was one of six top-ten finishes.
2012 Notes: Things started to fail her in 2012 as in January, she had a pretty bad bike accident with a badly bruised hip, a gash on her head, and half of the skin on her right hand ripped of. Despite the excruciating pain, the year was beginning in Australia a week later. She missed all three cuts during that Australia trip. As it was the first time that had ever happened to her, it was easy to brush it off as a short-term physical injury. But as that season went on, the little gremlins in her brain became more vocal - far louder than any of my brain's logical or conscious parts. Things got worst, strange sensations in her body, like having no control over her legs or arms during her golf swing. She couldn't feel them as her mind and body were disconnected. She played in 21 events on the LET for the year and only made ten cuts. Her last three starts improved as she was T-4th at the Sanya Ladies Open, T-22nd at the Hero Women's Indian Open, and T-3rd at the Dubai Ladies Masters. But even such a high could not mask what was really going on, the seeds of doubt had now manifested into outright fear as a result of the yips.
2013 Notes: Things didn't get any better as in 15 starts, she only made six cuts and finished 100th on the money list with only euro15,085 in earnings. Her best finish was T-24th at the Volvik RACV Ladies Masters.
2014 Notes: In 17 events only made eight cuts, besst finish was T-7th at the Heisingborg Open. She finished 88th on the money list with euro17,475 in earnings.
2015 Notes: Not any better, in 12 starts only made two cuts, best finish was T-17th at the Ladies Scottish Open.
2016 Notes: In 8 LET events made two cuts, best finish T-41st int he ISPS Handa New Zealand Open. Losing her tour card she only played in two LET events in 2017, was T-66th at the ED Mediterranean Ladies Open.
2018 Notes: Played in seven LET events and made two cuts, best finish T-50th at the Andalucia Open De Espana.
2019 Notes: Played in 13 events and only made two cuts, best finish T-53rd at the Fatima zbint Mubarak Open.
Not earning money took a toll as she had to delver parcels for Amazon and worked in an office. She also delieverd takeway food. During the pandemic lockdown worked in a pro shop doing some teaching. Once in the Ladies European Open in Germany she shot a first round 88 and officials wouldn't allow her to play in the second round because she shot so high in the first round. During the pandemic she had to accept the fact that she had a severe case of burnout and the yips. She hit rock bottom, with no car, no money and nowhere to live.
Steve Bond her physical trainer let Becky live with his family, thinking that it would be a couple of months. Turned out to be close to three years. Trusted friends helped changed her mindset giving her much needed confidence. Her friends sent her to America with strict instructions to hit no long shots but only chipping and putting along with reading. This helped build confidence and she started enjoying golf again. Between Steve Bond and another friend Martin Park they helped her in parctising less, but making the practice session important. This along with changing her focus on the golf course along with eating better and driniking more water and lesss alcohol helped her.
2021 Notes: Becky played in 11 LET events and finished 2nd in the Aramco Team Series - Jeddah alongside Lydia Hall and Luiza Altmann. She won a Rose Ladies Series event in May despite still struggling with her first-tee yips. There would still be a few slips, like when she pulled out of the World Invitational in August due to a bout of nerves and fear. But after taking a short break, something "flipped" in her mind with a notable change in her outlook and through September to November, the clouds would start to lift. Then, playing in Saudi Arabia where she finished 28th in the Saudi Ladies International, Brewerton knew the final hurdle had been negotiated. Becky returned to LET Q-School in December and finished T-9th in the Final Qualifier to secure her full LET playing rights for 2022.
2022 Notes: In her first event at the Saudi Ladies International she finished T-24th. The next week things came together at the Joburg Ladies Open as she finished T-9th. It was her first top-25 finish since finishing T-7th in the 2014 Helsingborg Open, a span of almost eight years. The next week was even better as she found herself with the third round lead at the Investec SA Women's Open. She shot a final round 78 and finished 3rd, a shot back of the Lee-Anne Pace/Magdelena Simmermacher playoff. She had another top-ten finishing T-6th at the Aramco Team Series London individual part.
