Bret Burroughs

Burroughs has been playing golf since he was 10 years old when his father introduced him to the game. He qualified for a pair of U.S. Junior Amateurs.
In high school, he played golf at University City in Missouri and continued on to play on the University of Missouri golf team under coach Richard Poe. He played in three NCAA Division I National Championships at Missouri and qualified for the 1984 U.S. Open as a 21-year-old. The following year, he competed in the 1985 U.S. Amateur and U.S. Amateur Public Links.
In the fall of 1986, he turned professional and played in various mini-tour events and state Opens. He qualified for five Nike/Hogan Tour events in the late 1980s and into the 1990s. His victories include the 1992 St. Louis Open and 1999 Bogey Hills Invitational.
The 56-year-old, now living in Orlando with his wife, Heather, has been at Eastern Florida State College for two years as the groundskeeper at the Fred Gay Golf Academy Driving Range in Cocoa. He has played in four Florida Senior Opens in the last five years.
This will be his sixth USGA championship and his first U.S. Senior Open.
Outside of golf, Burroughs enjoys playing drums, reading and mountain climbing.
