Callum Tarren

He attended college at Radford University in Virginia. He was the Radford team captain during his junior and senior years. After his last year at Radford in 2014, he turned pro and returned to Europe. He joined the Europro Golf Tour. After taking odd jobs around Yorkshire, England, he saved enough money for a one-way ticket to China and a train pass. He was off to play in what was the third-year series that the PGA Tour was involved with in China and was called the PGA Tour China Series. So in May 2016, he traveled to China and spent 53 days playing in six events. He played well enough in those six events to become England's most nomadic golfer, including a T-6th at the Cadillac Championship. He played around China and then went to Central America to play in some Latin events. But his year of adventure made him, along with fellow countryman Michael Skelton, the first English golfers to play on the China Tour. To split costs, the two shared flights, trains, buses, hotel rooms, and even beds in some hotels. He saw a lot of China that first year and even though he didn't win an event, his five top-10 finishes, along with runner-up finishes at the Zhuhai Hengqing and Buick Open, saw him finish the year 8th in the Order of Merit, thus easing the financial insecurities of his venture. Tarren earned a partial entry onto the Latinoamerica Tour and played in the Guatemala Stella Artois Open (finished T-20th). I played at the La Reunion Golf Resort in 2017 at the base of Volcan de Fuego and found it paradise. On one of his off days, he scaled the volcano and looked down into its cater, which spat specs of lava and smoke into the sky. Little did he realize that a year later, the volcano that he climbed would erupt and destroy everything around it, including the resort.
2017 Notes: Tarren returned to play in China for a second season, but when the Chinese government lost its enthusiasm for golf, things were a bit different. The PGA Tour wasn't a part of the 2017 season, and some of the history has been lost, but Tarren played in 13 events, placed 3rd in the Order of Merit, and won the Jiangsu Open. Had the China Series' deal with the PGA not ended the previous year, Tarren would have won a coveted place on the United States Web.com Tour, which developing players use as a springboard for the main PGA Tour competition in America. Instead, he returned east for another year.
2018 Notes: The China Tour was realigned with the PGA Tour for the 2018 season. Tarren would play in 14 events and, in the first 13, had three runner-up finishes (one in which he lost a playoff), a 3rd place finish, and a total of 8 top-ten finishes. So he went to the year's final event at the Clearwater Bay Open in Hong Kong, thinking he needed to win to get a ticket to the Korn Ferry Tour. Tarren got behind early and shot a final round 62, only to walk off the last green with another runner-up finish. But the man leading the Order of Merit had bogeyed the 18th hole, thus giving the Order of Merit to Tarren, and for 2019, he would get a full ticket ride to the Korn Ferry Tour.
2019 Notes: Played in 22 Korn Ferry Tour events making 14 cuts with five top-25 finishes. He finished the season at 82nd on the Regular Season points list. He recorded five top-25s in 22 starts, including a season-best T-12th at The Bahamas Great Exuma Classic at Sandals Emerald Bay. At the conclusion of the season, he returned to China to play in three PGA Tour Series-China tournaments, recording one top-10.
2020/21 Notes: Played in 41 Korn Ferry Tour events over the two years, made 28 cuts, and had seven top-ten finishes. In 2020 his best finish was T-3rd at the TPC Colorado Championship. He was also T-7th at the WinCo Foods Portland Open. In 2021 his best finishes were T-4th at the Nationwide Children's, T-5th at the Wichita Open, and T-8th at the Utah Championship. In the Korn Ferry Tour Finals was T-26th at the Albertsons Boise Open, and with his T-4th at the Nationwide Children's, it was enough to finish 15th among the Finals 25 and secure his first PGA Tour card for 2022. He also finished 42nd on the 2020-21 Korn Ferry Tour Regular Season Points List. He totaled 16 top-25s in 41 starts for the 2020-21 season.
2022 Notes: Played in 26 PGA Tour events making 12 cuts with three top-ten finishes. It was 119th in the FedExCup rankings. He didn't make a check in his first eight events before finishing T-30th at the Honda Classic. The following week was T-5th at the Puerto Rico Open, eight shots back of winner Ryan Brehm. Going into the John Deere Classic was 172nd on the FedExCup rankings. Finished T-6th at the John Deere to climb to 141st, finished T-22nd at the Barracuda Championship, and the next week with a T-7th at the 3M Open climbed to 128th. With a T-20th at the Rocket Mortgage and T-27th at the Wyndham, go to 112th and qualify for the playoffs. He missed the cut at the FedEx St. Jude Championship.
2023 Notes: Finished T-2nd at The RSM Classic, two shots back of winner Adam Svensson, marking his first career runner-up on the PGA Tour. Entered the week with two career sub-65 scores on Tour and recorded 64s in the first and final rounds.
