Shot 73 and tied for medalist honors at the N. Riverside, Ill., sectional to qualify
When Graham Banister was 17, he was one of the finest young golfers in Australia. In a major junior tournament, he finished second to another teen phenom named Greg Norman. He chose to pursue a college degree rather than a pro career. He entered a career in business and became a software entrepreneur. He married and started a family, and moved to the United States. Like so many others he played less and less golf with the demands of family and business.
Finished third at the Australian Senior Open in 2007. In 2005, played in the U.S. Amateur, U.S. Amateur Public Links and U.S. Mid-Amateur. Was one time president and CEO of RMS, Inc., a company specializing in residential management software.
Plays on the European Senior Tour. Recorded his best Senior Tour finish of tied sixth in the Matrix Jersey Classic in 2010 but could not avoid a return to Qualifying School. Managed to secure a card again by finishing in ninth position, although was disappointed not to gain full playing rights after opening with rounds of 68 and 69 in Portugal. After years of barely playing golf, rediscovered the game and turned professional in 2007 at the age of 50, going on to play on the US Champions Tour. Played very little golf between the age of 25 and 45 due to work and family commitments which left him unable to play at the competitive level he enjoyed.
