Harrison Frazar

He grew up in Abilene, Texas, and moved to Dallas in 1985, playing with Justin Leonard at Royal Oaks C.C. in Dallas. The two were roommates at the University of Texas. He attended Highland Park High School, winning two state golf championships and being a three-time all-Texas selection. He then attended the University of Texas, majoring in Psychology and Business Foundations. He played on the Longhorns golf team, where he was a three-time honorable mention All-American. In his junior year, he shot a 65 and led Texas to a 2nd-place team finish at the NCAA Championship.
He made hole-in-one on ESPN during the 1994 NCAA Championships.
Frazar worked as an analyst at a Dallas commercial real estate firm, managing and developing golf courses as part of his job. Initially, he did not intend to play golf professionally, but Mark Brooks convinced him to try it.
So after turning pro, he played in the PGA Tour Qualifying Tournament and finished 87th, which got him a Korn Ferry Tour spot for 1997.
In 1997 he played in 25 Korn Ferry Tour events making 17 cuts with six top-ten finishes. He won at the South Carolina Classic, shooting 67-67 over the weekend for a three-shot win over R.W. Eaks. He was also 3rd at the Permian Basin Open, shooting 64-65 on the weekend, and finished three back of winner Paul Gow. He won $104,023 to finish 13th on the money list and earn his PGA Tour card.
For the next ten years, he was in the top-100 of the money list and in 2007 was 119th on the FedExCup point list to hold on to the PGA Tour Card. After the PGA Championship in 2001 had surgery on his right hip to repair a tear of the labrum and ligament problems and came back to play in the last two events on the PGA Tour in 2001. That hip would be a problem down the road, in 2008 he struggled and finished 174th in the FedExCup. It forced him back to the Qualifying Tournament, and he was the medalist. He finished 104th on the FedExCup in 2009 to keep his card but struggled with hip pain the following year. He did not play after the 2010 Travelers Championship and underwent hip surgery on August 3 due to "wear and tear."
He was able to come back and was 77th on the FedExCup in 2011, but the bulk of that came when he had his first career victory at the FedEx St. Jude Classic. He entered the final round of the tournament one shot behind 54-hole leader Robert Karlsson but shot a 3-under 67 to force a playoff with Karlsson, which he won with a par on the third playoff hole, earning his first PGA Tour victory in his 355th career start. After that, he started to struggle with consistency issues. His strength was making cuts and making a check, but the missed cuts began adding up. In 2012 he made 20 starts but only made 8 cuts. His season was saved with a great start, he was T-5th at the Sentry Tournament of Championship and the following week T-2nd at the Sony Open in Hawaii. 2012 would be the last year he held onto his PGA Tour card. The following year he finished 223 and was never able to get his tour card back. In 2013 the signs were on the wall of retirement as a back injury caused him to miss the 2013 season. In 2015 he retired from playing. He went into designing golf courses in Texas. In 2017, he joined the Company of Trinity Forest Golfers and became the tournament liaison between Trinity Forest Golf Club and the PGA Tour when AT&T Byron Nelson moved to the new course.
As for Frazar's PGA Tour record, he played in 409 events making 225 cuts with 37 Top-ten finishes. He won once, was runner-up five times, and 3rd six times. He earned $11,456,390 in his 18-year career.
In 2021 in getting ready to play on the PGA Tour Champions, he was able to play on some PGA Tour events due to having some medical extension left. He played in the Palmetto Championship, Rocket Mortgage, and John Deere Classic, missing the cut in all three. He also played in four Champions events. He finished T-16th at the Shaw Charity Classic in his first senior start. He also finished T-12th at the SAS Championship. At the end of the year went to PGA Tour Champions Qualifying Tournament and finished T-32nd.
2022 Notes: Played in 15 PGA Tour Championships with one top-ten finish. He was 52nd in the Schwab ranking and 52nd on the money list, earning $389,421. He was 2nd at the Constellation Furyk & Friends, two shots back of winner Steve Stricker.
2023 Notes: Best finish T-10th at the Trophy Hassan II.
