Joe McCormick

Has played in just five events in the past three years while competing in the Minnesota section of the PGA, missing the cut twice. Finished T-16th at the 2017 Minnesota Senior Open Championship and was T-27th in 2016 and T-20th in 2015 at the Minnesota State Open Championship. Won 2015 Minnesota Golf Association Mid-Amateur Championship at Somerby Golf Club and Rochester Country Club.
McCormick?s only other amateur victory came in 1990 when he won the MGA Amateur Four-Ball Championship at St. Cloud Country Club.
Qualified for the 2015 and 2016 U.S. Mid-Amateur Championship, missing the cut both times. Also played in the 1991 U.S. Amateur.
McCormick started playing with his father as a 12-year-old. He was raised in a small town of 6,000, with a single nine-hole golf course. A couple of years later club membership decided to add another nine holes. His father was a John Deere dealer and got hired to help with the project. McCormick would go out with his dad and pick up rocks, dig holes for bunkers, and plant trees.
He played all three years in high school. At California State University-Stanislaus, McCormick earned Division III third-team All-America honors in 1987 and would turn professional in 1992 and played for nine years. After losing sight in his right eye after an accident, McCormick quit playing golf from 2001-2011. His vision comes and goes even after receiving a corneal transplant. The desire to compete brought McCormick back to the golf course.
His brother, Pat, played college golf at Iowa State University.
