Kim Williams started playing golf at the age of 16. She credits her father Doug Williams, Dave King and Bill Straughsbaugh as the individuals who most influenced her career. Williams was a member of the 1986 U.S. Curtis Cup Team and was the low-amateur in the 1986 Nabisco Dinah Shore. She captured the 1985-86 Southern Amateur Championship titles and in 1985 won the Doherty Challenge Cup and the Eastern Amateur. Williams was runner-up at the 1984 U.S. Women's Amateur Championship. She also posted victories at the 1984 and 1985 Canadian Amateur Championships and participated in four U.S. Women's Open Championships as an amateur.
In 1986, she qualified for the LPGA Tour T-37 at the LPGA Final Qualifying Tournament to earn non-exempt status for the 1987 LPGA season. Williams played on the LPGA Tour between 1987 and 2007, she played in 415 events. Williams made the cut in 192 with 15 top-ten finishes. Her best finish was T-2 at the 1988 Sara Lee Classic when she lost a playoff to Patti Rizzo. Her next best finish was T-3 at the 1997 Champions Classic.
Around 2008, Williams moved to Bethesda, Md. and began teaching at East Potomac Park. In 2016, she moved to Tennessee and worked at Golf Tech in Franklin, Tenn. giving lessons. At the present time Williams is playing in as many senior events as she can and is looking for additional opportunities in golf.
She competed in the 2017 Senior LPGA Championship where she finished T-66 and also competed in the 2018 Senior LPGA where she finished T-55.

Williams is playing in the U.S. Senior Women's Open for the first time.
