Kyle Thompson

Won a school-record five tournaments, eclipsing Carl Paulson's USC record of four wins. Won two NCAA regional titles, the East Regional as a sophomore and West Regional as a senior. Was an American Junior Golf Association first-team All-American in 1996 and third-team choice in 1995.
In 2002 made it to final stage of PGA Tour Qualifying Tournament after finishing T-11th and T-8th during first and second stage sites. Finished T-49th which got him a Web.Com Tour card for 2003. Played in three NGA Hooters Tour events in 2002, with top-six finishes in all three.

With limited status, came into the Raleigh event at a career crossroad and seriously considering a future outside of the touring professional golf life. Grabbed the second-round lead after a 63-68 start. Added a third-round 69. Was T-2nd, two shots off the pace entering the final round at TPC Wakefield Plantation. Made steady progress up the leaderboard and fired a 4-under 67, which put him at 17 under and tied with clubhouse leaders Patton Kizzire and Miguel Angel Carballo. Drained a 4-foot birdie putt on the second hole of a sudden-death playoff to get the win. Became the first player in Tour history to win the same event three times (also 2007 and 2011). Victory was worth $112,500 and moved him to No. 15 on the money list through 10 of the 21 Regular Season events. Made plenty of cuts (10 of 12) through the end of the Regular Season, but managed just one more top 10, a T-10th at the Stonebrae Classic in July. Slid outside the top 25 to 30th by the end of Regular Season.
