Louis de Jager

Born in Duiwelskloof (now called Modjadjiskloof) near Tzaneen, De Jagers parents moved to Polokwane when he was four years old. Its here where his golf career began to take shape. Every December his family would go on holiday to the KZN South Coast and his dad would play golf. Louis would accompany him and pull his cart. Louis's father later cut down some clubs and Louis started to play. When he was 10, he began to play quite a bit of golf, probably every day. As he grew up he played other sports, rugby, swimming, and cricket but never to the level Louis played golf.
While still a junior golfer met Retief Goosen and anytime Goosen was in Polokwane De Jager would walk around the golf course with Goosen. Over the years Retief has been a big role model for De Jager.
When he finished school, De Jager's father said that he'd give his son three years to focus on golf as if he was going to college and De Jager's father supported him financially with the aim of being good enough to turn professional. In his first six months, he played every day for six months and had problems. His parents questioned if he wasn't playing too much golf and burning out and it was determined that he needed some guidance. So he found Llewellyn van Leeuwen who helped him with his game and he also got a sports psychologist which in under a year helped him. In 2007 he won both the South African Amateur and South African Amateur Stroke Play Championships.
After turning professional in 2008, De Jager made his Sunshine Tour breakthrough when he won the 2009 Suncoast Classic. It took him five years before he won again ââ?¬â?? twice in 2014. And then in 2018 he raised his game when he earned his European Tour card at Qualifying School, at his fifth attempt.
In all of the years he played on the Sunshine Tour, his best year was 2013 and 2018 when he was 7th in the order of merit. But getting to the European Tour clicked him into a different level.
2019 Notes: Played in 26 European Tour events making 12 cuts with one top-ten finish. Was 123rd in the Race to Dubai with winnings of euro255,670.96. His best finish was T-2nd at the Magical Kenya Open he was a shot back of the winner Guido Migliozzi. On the Sunshine Tour won the Eye of Africa PGA Championship beating Trevor Fisher, jr. in a playoff.
2020 Notes: Played in 18 European Tour events making 12 cuts with two top-ten finishes. He was 116th in the Race to Dubai with earnings of euro139,829.15. His best finish was T-4th at the Afrasia Bank Mauritius Open.
2021 Notes: Was T-12th at the Tenerife Open and Canary Islands Championship.
He went through 18-hole regional and 36-hole final qualifying at West Lancashire to play in his first Open and major championship.
