Mark Mance

From an early age, Mance was a highly competitive tennis player, good enough to once be nationally ranked as high as No. 3 in doubles and in the top 10 in singles. When he was 16, he knocked out a future Hall of Famer named Pete Sampras in the round of 16 at the United States Tennis Association's 16-and-under National Hard Court Championship.
Two years later, he teamed with Drew Wager to win a pair of national doubles titles, defeating future pros David Wheaton and Jeff Tarango in the National Hard Court finals. Mance also routinely competed against future stars Jim Courier and MaliVai Washington.
Duke University awarded him a full scholarship and he was an All-Atlantic Coast Conference performer in 1989. Mance briefly tried the pro circuit for a year before realizing the only way he was going to get to Centre Court at Wimbledon was to buy a ticket.
So it was off to Wall Street in 1991 and he worked for Morgan Stanley as a financial analyst and associate in the real estate mergers and acquisitions department. Did this for two years before deciding to go to Stanford for an MBA. That is were Mance started playing golf and getting good at it. After Stanford, he worked for the Westbrook Partners where he was responsible for more than $2 billion in acquisitions and dispositions. Mance then became president of the Sunstone Hotel Investors which managed upper-upscale hotels. In 2004 he founded the Northview Hotel Group and throughout his career Mance has invested over $3 billion of lodging assets and developed a strong track record of generating exceptional risk-adjusted returns for partners and investors.
Mance resides in Whitefish, Montana for half the year and the other half in Sonoma, California. He has never considered a life as a golfing professional and says he enjoys playing senior golf instead of competing against 25 year-olds. Mance has played in three USGA events, the 2012 U.S. Mid-Am, he didn't make it out of stroke play, and two USGA state team championships.
He won the 2016 Montana Mid-Amateur championship.
