Matt Wallace

Wallace represents The Belfry Hotel & Resort in Sutton Coldfield, England. He comes from an athletic family, with his parents being physical education teachers. Was good at all sports, including high-level cricket, football, and rugby. I began taking golf seriously at age 18. After finishing school in 2008, Wallace spent a couple of years working in a clothing store and played a bit of golf. His father discussed with him that it was time to decide on his life's direction. Wallace decided to go to America and attend Jacksonville State in Alabama. His friend Danny Willett was there, and he loved the thought of living in America. Despite being the No. 1 player on the Jacksonville team, Wallace decided to leave the program. He returned home and was a bit lost on what to do. He tried to get into golf management but couldn't find any opportunities, so he turned professional and played in mini-tour events around England. He contemplated giving up but decided to play on the Alps Tour. In 2016, he won six tournaments on the tour, including winning five times in five consecutive starts, along with winning the Order of Merit. This enabled him to join the Challenge Tour in 2017. He also met with ISM agent Chubby Chandler, and they hit it off. Chandler gave him the opportunity he needed, securing an invitation for Wallace to play at the Nordea Masters in 2016. Wallace signed with ISM, and it was the confidence he needed.
He started 2017 by finishing T-3rd at the Barclays Kenya Open. In May, he won the 2017 Open de Portugal, a dual-ranking event with the main European Tour. As a result of this win, he earned a promotion to the European Tour for the rest of the year.
2017 Notes: Played 22 European Tour events, making 14 cuts. He had five top-10 finishes, including a win at the Open de Portugal. It was 70th in the Race to Dubai. He also qualified and played in his first major, the U.S. Open, but missed the cut.
2018 Notes: Played 30 European Tour events and made 25 cuts with six top-10 finishes. He claimed his first European Tour victory by defeating Andrew Johnston on the first hole of a playoff to win the Hero Indian Open. Wallace won for a second time with a one-stroke victory at the BMW International over Thorbjorn Olesen, Martin Kaymer, and Mikko Korhonen. He won for a third time at the Made in Denmark, defeating Jonathan Thomason, Steven Brown, and Lee Westwood. He ended the year with a T-5th at the Nedbank Golf Challenge and a T-2nd at the DP World Tour Championship, Dubai, where he finished two strokes behind winner Danny Willett. He ranked 10th in the Race to Dubai. In 2016, he ended the year 1,168th in the Official World Golf Ranking. After his runner-up finish in Dubai at the end of 2018, he was 44th, which opened many doors for 2019.
2019 Notes: Played in 27 European Tour events, making 24 cuts with seven top-10 finishes. It was 7th in the Race to Dubai. Finished runner-up at the Omega Dubai Desert Classic, seven strokes behind winner Bryson DeChambeau. He earned his first top-10 on the PGA Tour with a T-6th finish at the Arnold Palmer Invitational, four strokes behind winner Francesco Molinari. At the Betfred British Masters, finished T-2nd, a stroke behind winner Marcus Kinhult. The following week, he earned his first top-10 finish in a major with a T-3rd at the PGA Championship. He was T-3rd at the BMW International, two shots out of the Pavan/Fitzpatrick playoff. He was 3rd at the KLM Open, three shots behind winner Sergio Garcia. T-7th at the Italian Open and T-8th at Portugal Masters. Ended the year T-28th at the DP World Tour Championship, Dubai.
2020 Notes: In his first year on the PGA Tour, he played in 13 events, making nine cuts with one top-10. Finished 134th in the FedExCup standings. Played in 15 European Tour events making 14 cuts with two top-ten finishes. He was 37th in the Race to Dubai. He had a slow start to his season, without a top-20 result until he finished T-12th at the Rocket Mortgage Classic. He was T-4th at The Memorial, five strokes behind winner Jon Rahm. He played in the final stretch of the European Tour and was 2nd at the Scottish Championship, where he shot a final-round 71 to finish four shots behind winner Adrian Otaegui who carded a final-round 63. He was T-2nd at the Golf in Dubai Championship, two shots back of winner Antoine Rozner. He ended his European year with a T-29th finish at the DP World Tour Championship.
2021 Notes: Played in 18 PGA Tour events making 13 cuts with two top-ten finishes. It was 111th in the FedExCup rankings. He played in 14 DP World Tour events making eight cuts with two top-ten finishes. It was 84th in the Race to Dubai. He was T-7th at the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship. He was 3rd at the Valero Texas Open, four shots back of winner Jordan Spieth. The finish ties his previous best finish on the PGA Tour of T-3rd at the PGA Championship. He was T-6th at the Wells Fargo Championship, five shots back of winner Rory McIlroy. He was T-8th in the Cazoo Open. In the FedEx Cup playoffs withdrew from the Northern Trust. He ended his European Tour year missing the cut at the Aviv Dubai Championship.
2022 Notes: Played in 21 PGA Tour events making nine cuts with two top-ten finishes. It was 136th in the FedExCup rankings. He played in ten DP World Tour events making six cuts with two top-ten finishes. Was 101st in the Race to Dubai. Started the season T-4th at the Zozo Championship, nine shots back of winner Hideki Matsuyama. He was T-5th at the Dutch Open, three shots back of the Victor Perez/Ryan Fox playoff. I was T-10th at the Rocket Mortgage Classic. At the Omega, European Masters shot 66 in the final round to finish tied with Thriston Lawrence but lost the playoff on the first playoff hole to finish 2nd. He ended the season with a T-43rd finish at the Portugal Masters.
2023 Notes: Was T-7th at the Valspar Championship. The next week he won the Corales Puntacana Championship by one shot over Nicolai Hojgaard, earning his first PGA Tour title in his 80th career start. He held a one-shot lead after the second round and shot 66 in the final round.
