Maverick McNealy

McNealy earned his place in both the U.S. Open and the Open Championship by winning the 2016 McCormack Medal for being the No. 1 player in the World Amateur Golf Ranking after last summer's U.S. Amateur Championship. He played in his second U.S. Open at Erin Hills after missing the cut in 2014 at Pinehurst as an 18-year-old qualifier. After a stellar college career at Stanford University, McNealy was named the recipient of the 2017 Byron Nelson Award and the Ben Hogan Award, presented annually to the top men's college golfer.
McNealy represented the USA in the 2015 Walker Cup Match and was a 2016 U.S. Palmer Cup team member. He led the United States to the 2015 Palmer Cup title (3-1). He was a 2015 USGA Four-Ball Championship medalist. He made it to the round of 16 at the 2015 U.S. Amateur. Was a four-time selection to the PING All-America first team, PING All-Regional, and All-Pac-12 first team. He was named Pac-12 Player of the Year in his junior and senior seasons, just the fifth Cardinal to earn that honor.
He won the 2015 Pacific-12 Conference title by shooting a final-round 61, giving him 11 college wins - tying him for the school scoring record alongside Tiger Woods and Patrick Rodgers. The graduated senior was named All-Pac 12 Academic First Team during his senior and junior seasons and second team as a sophomore while majoring in management science and engineering.
He began playing the game of golf around the age of 3 and credits his dad for introducing him to the game when they would go out to their backyard chipping green. His dad is Scott McNealy, better known as co-founder of Sun Microsystems. McNealy's sporting interests stretched beyond fairways and greens. He also played hockey, soccer through high school, and basketball in his younger days. He spent six years with the San Jose Junior Sharks, winning two state championships. McNealy credits his time on the ice with improving his athleticism and strength, preventing him from burning out on the links. His father Scott, played golf at Harvard and earned his MBA at Stanford, and his mother, Susan, also earned her degree at Stanford.
2017 Notes: On June 18, McNealy graduated with a Management Science and Engineering degree. As for the summer, he missed the cut at both the U.S. Open and British Open. After that played in the U.S. Amateur, losing in the round of 64. He also made the Walker Cup team, played at Los Angeles Country Club. After that, he turned professional and, at Korn Ferry Tour Q-school, finished T-10th to earn his card for 2018.
2018 Korn Ferry Tour Summary: Tournaments entered - 18; in money - 12; top-10 finishes - 2; scoring average 70.07 (ranked 38th); money $84,261 (ranked 65th); Korn Ferry Tour finals money $2,744 (ranked 110th), Priority rank 116; Best finish, T-3rd at the United Leasing & Finance, three shots back of winner Jose de Jesus Rodriguez. Also, T-6th at the Rust-Oleum Championship. Played in seven PGA Tour events, best finish T-29th at the Farmers Insurance Open.
2019 Korn Ferry Tour Summary: Tournaments entered - 22; in money - 16; top-10 finishes - 3; scoring average 70.43 (ranked T-50th); money $163,503 (ranked 31st); Korn Ferry Tour finals points 8,800 (ranked 44th), Priority rank 44; Best finish, 2nd at the LECOM Suncoast Classic, two shots back of winner Mark Hubbard. Also 3rd at the Ellie Mae Classic, two shots back of winner Zac Blair. Played in two PGA Tour events, T-63rd at Safeway Open, and missed the cut at the Sanderson Farms. Secured his PGA Tour card for 20120 by finishing 23rd on the Korn Ferry Tour Regular Season points list and entered the 2019-20 season 44th in the final priority ranking.
2020 Notes: Played in 23 PGA Tour events making 17 cuts with three top-ten finishes. He was 68th on the FedExCup points list. I was T-5th at the AT&T Pebble Beach. Shot a final-round 66 at the Rocket Mortgage to finish T-8th and was 7th at the Barracuda Championship. In the FedExCup playoffs was T-61st at the Northern Trust and T-40th at the BMW Championship.
2021 Notes: Played in 26 PGA Tour events and made 16 cuts with two top-ten finishes. He was 58th on the FedExCup points list. Finished 2nd at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, earning his first top-two result in 50 starts on the PGA Tour. He marked the second top-five of his career, both coming at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am (finished T-5th in 2020). Shot 67-67 over the weekend to finish T-4th at the RBC Heritage. At the FedExCup Playoffs were T-27th at the Northern Trust and T-63rd at the BMW Championship.
2022 Notes: Played in 27 PGA Tour events making 22 cuts with four top-ten finishes. It was 38th in the FedExCup rankings. He entered the final round of the Fortinet Championship with a share of the lead before finishing 2nd, one shot behind winner Max Homa. He earned his second career runner-up on the PGA Tour in his 67th career start. He held the outright lead after the second round, his first career lead/co-lead after any round on the PGA Tour. He was T-7th at the Genesis Invitational, seven shots behind winner Joaquin Niemann. He was T-8th at the John Deere Classic and T-9th at the Barracuda Championship. In the FedExCup playoffs was T-31st at the FedEx St. Jude and T-32nd at the BMW Championship.
2023 Notes: Was T-10th at the Shriners Children's Open and World Wide Technology Championship at Mayakoba. Shot 67067 over the weekend to finish T-7th at the Sony Open in Hawaii. He had to withdraw from the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-am when he hurt his left shoulder. The injury prevented him from playing in the WM Phoenix Open, and he didn't return until the Players Championship, where he finished T-60th.
