Michael Kim

Under the guidance of his father, Kim started playing golf at age 8. His Torrey Pines High School team won the state title in his senior season and the Southern California crown in his final three years in high school.
In his first two seasons at the University of California, he was one of the nation's leading golfers in both the collegiate and amateur ranks. As a sophomore in 2012-13, he was Pac-12 Player of the Year, named first-team All-American, and became Cal's first National Player of the Year in four different selection processes.
In 2012, he won the Isleworth Collegiate Championship. He had a one-shot lead going into the final round but ended up in a fairway bunker, made the shot onto the green, and had a two-putt to win. Kim cites this experience as his most memorable in golf. Finished runner-up at the 2012 Gopher Invitational.
Competed in the 2012 U.S. Amateur Public Links and made it to the round of 16 in match play. He also played at the 2011 U.S. Amateur and finished T32nd. He also competed in 2010 but did not make the cut.
He was named the 2013 Jack Nicklaus Award winner as the top collegiate player of the year. Won the Fred Haskins Award for college golf excellence the same year. He was low amateur at the 2013 U.S. Open at Merion, being as high as T-3rd through 15 holes of the third round. Eventually finished T-17th. Represented the U.S. on the Palmer Cup as well as the Walker Cup at The National Golf Links. At the end of 2014, played the Korn Ferry Tour Qualifying Tournament as an amateur (was still enrolled at Cal and competing on the golf team). Opened strong with 68-69-66 before three disappointing final rounds of 70-74-75 to finish T-56th. Had the option to activate his membership at any time during the 2014 season, provided he declared his professional intentions. Two days after Q-School, he announced he had turned professional.

2015 Korn Ferry Tour Summary: Tournaments Entered - 24; In Money - 19; Top-10 Finishes - 5; Scoring Average - 69.29 (Rank 3rd); Money - $190,243 (Rank 13th); Finals Money - $8,960 (82nd); Priority Rank (35); Best Finish, T-3rd, Rust-Oleum Championship and Digital Ally Open. The Digital Ally finish moved him up to No. 20, and the timely Portland performance (8th) wrapped up the 13th spot on the money list, which secured his PGA Tour card for 2015-16.
2016 Notes: He played consistently in his rookie season, making 22 cuts in 29 starts. He recorded four top-25 finishes, with the best result being a T-11th at the Barbasol Championship, where he posted four rounds in the 60s for the only time in the season. One of seven rookies who advanced to the FedExCup Playoffs. He finished 118th after missing the cut at The Barclays to end his season.
2017 Notes: Made the cut in 19 of 28 starts during his sophomore season on the PGA Tour, highlighted by his first top-10 finish at the season-opening Safeway Open. He did not crack the top 10 again but managed six top-25 finishes. Finished the season 100th in the FedExCup standings following missed cuts at the opening two FedExCup Playoffs events.
2018 Notes: Played 27 PGA Tour events, making 10 cuts with one top-10 finish. He was 81st in the FedExCup standings. Playing in his 84th event on the PGA Tour and a day after his 25th birthday, he won the John Deere Classic by eight shots over Francesco Molinari. Kim did it with rounds of 63-64-64-66, the lowest score in his PGA Tour career. Going into the Deere, in 22 starts in 2018, had just three top-25 finishes, the best was T-15th at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans (teamed with Andrew Putnam). With his John Deere win, Kim got the last spot in the British Open at Carnoustie, where he finished T-25th.
2019 Notes: Played in 26 PGA Tour events making 4 cuts. He was 227th in the Race to Dubai. Since the Shriners Hospitals For Children Open, he has missed 22 cuts playing 72 holes just once in that stretch finishing T-32nd at the Sentry Tournament of Champions.
2020 Notes: Continued to struggle in 15 events, only played 72 holes once, finishing T-69th a the CJ CUp@Nine Bridges.
2021 Notes: Played in 30 PGA Tour events making nine cuts. He was 214th in the FedExCup standings, and his best finish was 28th in the Zurich Classic of New Orleans, teamed with Brandon Hagy. Best individual finish, T-39th at the 3M Open.
2022 Notes: Lost his PGA Tour card and returned to the Korn Ferry Tour. In 25 starts made 19 cuts with three top-10 finishes. He was 3rd at the Memorial Health Champions, four shots back of the winner Paul Haley II. He finished T-5th at the Utah Championship and Pinnacle Bank Championship. He regained his PPGA Tour card by finishing 19th on the season-long points list and 17th on the season-long Korn Ferry Tour Eligibility Points List. On the PGA Tour, he finished 7th at the Barbasol Championship.
2023 Notes: He was 5th at the Puerto Rico Open and 7th at the Wells Fargo Championship. The finish got him a spot at the 151st Open. Was T-6th at the Charles Schwab Challenge, three shots back of the Emiliano Grillo/Adam Schenk playoff.
