Paul Howard

Started playing at a young age, Howard was selected for Lancashire Boys coached by Gareth Benson, who remains his personal coach to this day. In 2007 Howard won the North of England Schools Championship which led to him winning his first international event when playing for the English Schools team in the 2007 home internationals and he was appointed Captain of English Schools the following year.
Howard was a beneficiary of Edge Hill University?s ?Sporting Excellence? initiative from where he graduated with a 2:1 B.Sc in Business and Management in 2013. During his studies Paul continued to progress his golf career winning the Northern Counties qualifier and recording top ten finishes in a number of prestigious tournaments including the Lytham Trophy. His consistency resulted in selection for the England ?A? squad and he represented England in the Finnish Amateur Championship in Helsinki in which he finished sixth. During his graduation year he played in the Home Internationals and represented England in the Chiberta Grand Prix and the Biarritz Cup. He also represented England Golf in the biennial Spirit International Amateur Championship at the Whispering Pines Golf Club, Houston, Texas. In 2013 he finished fifth in the Welsh Open, was ninth in the St. Andrews Links Trophy and helped Lancashire to become County Champions by winning five of a possible six points in the final.
Having graduated and free of University commitments Paul was promoted to England?s Elite Squad and in January 2014 triumphed by six shots to win the South American Amateur Championship in Columbia. Following a seventh place finish in the Welsh Amateur he was joint third in the St. Andrews Links competition missing out on the play off by one stroke. He also reached the quarter finals of the Amateur Championship at Royal Portrush.
In January 2015 Paul swapped the British winter for the sunnier climes of Australia having been selected as one of a three strong team being sent down under by English Golf. Paul was fifth in the ?Masters of the Amateurs? at Royal Melbourne and won the New South Wales Amateur Championship at Avondale Golf Club near Sydney. In March Paul declared his intention to play in professional tournaments in order to utilise his invitations to compete on the Challenge Tour having won this right as a product of Tour School. Four months after leaving the amateur ranks Paul won his first professional title when he claimed the HotelPlanner.com PGA Europro Tour?s Paul Lawrie Foundation Granite City Classic title at Newmacher, in Scotland finishing the 54 hole tournament at 15 under to secure his first tour victory following top-10 finishes.
2015 Notes: Played in 9 Challenge Tour events making 6 cuts, best finish was T-14th in the Made in Denmark Challenge. At the end of the year went to Q-school and secured full playing rights for the 2016 Challenge Tour.
