Peter Jacobsen

Won the 2004 U.S. Senior Open at Bellerive Country Club in St. Louis.
Started playing golf at age 12 and was taught fundamentals by his father, receiving additional instruction from his older brother, David (who served served as a USGA starter in the 2017 U.S. Senior Open at Salem CC). Won the 1974 PAC-8 Conference Championship at Oregon, where he was a three-time All-American selection.
Turned professional in 1976 and joined the PGA Tour in 1977. Won his first PGA Tour event at the 1980 Buick-Goodwrench Open. In 1984, earned victories at the Colonial National Invitation and Sammy Davis Jr.-Greater Hartford Open.
Had a ruptured disc in his back in 1987, which required back surgery, and also suffered from severe sinus trouble. In 1992, lost his exempt status and was thinking of cutting back his golf schedule to become a television commentator. Joined the ABC Sports announcing team in 1993, but as he spent more time in the booth, he knew his true love was playing on the PGA Tour. In 1994, devoted his time to playing the PGA Tour full time, but was hampered when he started the year with an injury after cutting two fingers on his right hand while playing with his children. The injury required surgery and kept him out of competition until the Phoenix Open. Later in the year at the Memorial, he pulled rib muscles, requiring five weeks of rest .
Had two PGA Tour victories in 1995 at age 41, winning the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am and Buick Invitational of California. His last PGA Tour victory was in 2003, at the Greater Hartford Open.
A full-time member of the PGA Tour from 1977 to 2005, he played in 659 events, made 463 cuts and recorded 77 top-10 finishes with seven victories and 15 runner-up finishes. Joined the PGA Tour Champions in 2004 and won that year's U.S. Senior Open at Bellerive Country Club in St. Louis, Mo., defeating Hale Irwin by one stroke. Only other PGA Tour Champions victory was at the 2005 Ford Senior Player Championship.
In 2011, underwent surgery on his lower back in late October to remove bone spurs. Also did analyst work for NBC Sports during the year.
In 2012, played in 15 events during the year while continuing his broadcasting work with NBC Sports. Best finish was a T-17th at the U.S. Senior Open, an event he won in 2004.
2013 Notes: In 15 tournaments, had a trio of top-25 finishes and finished 79th on the money list. His best showing was in his second start when he was T-18th at the ACE Group Classic in Naples, Fla., on the strength of three sub-par rounds. Was forced to withdraw prior to his third round at the Regions Tradition in June with a foot injury. Also withdrew from the 2013 U.S. Senior Open from heat-related symptoms. Continued his broadcast work with NBC Sports/Golf Channel.
2014 Notes: Continued to split his time between playing on the PGA Tour Champions and his broadcast work with NBC/Golf Channel. Played in 14 events overall. Along with Jay Haas, finished second to the team of Jeff Sluman-Fred Funk by one shot at the Big Cedar Lodge Legends of Golf. The duo led by one stroke after 36 holes and battled the winners down to the final hole on the par-3 Top of the Rock Course before falling one shot shy. Finished the year 69th on the money list and 56th in the Schwab Rankings.
2015 Notes: Played in just 11 events, teamed with Jay Haas to finish 22nd at the Bass Pro Shops Legends of Golf in April.
2016 Notes: Played in just 7 events during the year, the fewest since 2008. Battled some injuries during the year and also continued his work with Golf Channel and NBC Sports. Finished T-23rd with Jay Haas at the Bass Pro Shops Legends of Golf in April. Underwent surgery in January, 2017 to make some repairs to his left hip which was replaced in 2006. Was expected to be sidelined until April, 2017.
2017 Notes: With a busy schedule as a member of broadcast teams for NBC Sports and Golf Channel, he made just five starts, the fewest he's played in a season since joining the Tour in 2004. His best finish was his first start at the Principal Charity Classic where he finished T-61st.
2018 Notes: Played in 5 PGA Tour Champions events, best finish T-16th at the Bass Pro Shops Legends of Golf with partner Jay Haas. Best individual event T-37th at the Mitsubishi Electric Championship at Hualalai.
2019 Notes: Best finish, T-22nd at the Bass Pro Shops Legends of Golf with partner Jay Haas.
