Tammie Green-Parker

Green-Parker was born in Somerset, Ohio. As a kid, she played both golf and basketball. She struggled with her golf game but was always good at basketball, possessing a great outside shot. Green-Parker played on the high school boys team but when it was time to go to college, Marshall College in West Virginia offered her a golf scholarship. "The basketball coach didn't have any scholarship money, so I went on a golf scholarship knowing I'd play basketball as well," she explains. "I tried that, but it didn't work because the seasons overlapped."
Concentrating on golf turned out to be one of the best decisions of Green-Parker's career. She went on to win four collegiate tournaments, three during her senior year. She narrowly missed being named to the All-America team. "I feel as though it was because I went to a smaller school and that I didn't do well in the nationals," Green-Parker says.
She started her professional career on the Futures Tour, where she won 11 tournaments and was Player of the Year in 1985 and 1986. In 1986, she qualified for the LPGA Tour by finishing T2 at the LPGA Final Qualifying Tournament.
Green-Parker played full-time on the LPGA Tour between 1987 and 2004, playing in 396 events and making 327 cuts. She had 89 top tens (22% of her starts) and earned $4,112,088.
She won seven times, including one major championship, the 1989 du Maurier Classic. She was also runner-up 15 times. Her best year was in 1997, where she won twice, was in the top-five six times, and earned $595,077 to finish 5th on the money list. She played for the U.S. in the Solheim Cup in 1994 and 1998, with a record of 2-4. Green-Parker is cited in the LPGA Media Guide as the first player to compete in the Solheim Cup while being six months pregnant. She said her swing plane actually flattened out as her pregnancy.
Green-Parker was a member of the LPGA Tour Player Executive Committee from 1992 - 1994.
One of Green-Parker's most gratifying and waking moments on the LPGA came in May of 1997 when she won the Sprint Titleholders Championship. It came 15 months after she had undergone emergency surgery to repair a ruptured ovarian cyst. She also had her appendix removed and began wondering if she would ever have children or win again. The win came 15 months later, a year after the win she was married and then had a daughter.
After she had daughter Tina Marie, Green-Parker told the media that once the child went to school she wanted to be a full-time mom. Her husband Bill ran the Columbus marketing for the 115 Kroger stores. He is now retired. Green-Parker helped her mother for the last couple of years before she passed away in 2018. Her nephew, Travis Wilson, serves as her caddie now. Wilson has also caddied for LPGA Tour golfer Stacy Lewis the last 12 years.

Green-Parker shot 76-75-79-67=297 (+5) to finish T8 in the inaurugral U.S. Senior Women's Open.
