Bob Tway

Introduced to golf at age 5, following his father and grandfather around course. Played his first tournament at age 7. His son Kevin, the 2005 U.S. Junior Amateur winner, played at Oklahoma State, and has since turned professional. Bob caddied for Kevin in the 2008 U.S. Open at Torrey Pines, where he missed the cut. Has a brother, Scott, who caddies for Brian Harman, the runner-up in the 2017 U.S. Open.
Longtime member of the PGA Tour, with 683 career starts, eight wins, 11 runner-ups, 10 thirds, and 103 top-10 finishes to his credit from 1981-2009. One of the busiest players on Tour, with at least 20 starts per season from 1985-2008. His best year was 1986, when he won four times and earned PGA Player of the Year honors. Captured the 1986 PGA Championship at Inverness Club in Toledo, Ohio, where he holed a greenside bunker shot on the 72nd hole to defeat Greg Norman, and finished the year second on the PGA Tour money list with $652,780. For the next four years he stayed in the top 50 of the money list. Finished 52nd in 1991 and the next year dropped to 179th. After another tough year in 1994, Tway came back the following year to record his best year financially. He won his first event in five years, an emotional playoff victory at the MCI Classic. Three-time All-American selection at Oklahoma State and member of two national championship teams in 1978 and 1980, he joined the Champions Tour in 2009.
2011 Notes: Made a strong bid for his first PGA Tour Champions career victory win in June when he was the 18 and 36-hole leader at the Greater Hickory Classic at Rock Barn before a closing-round, 1-under-par 71 left him T-8th. The week included an opening-round 9-under-par 63.
2012 Notes: Lone top-10 finish in 21 events was a T-3rd at the Montreal Championship. Was the 36-hole leader at Richelieu Valley after a second-round, 7-under 65 that included a run of six straight birdies, matching the PGA Tour Champions'longest birdie run of the season. Final-round 70 wasn't good enough to hold off a streaking Mark Calcavecchia (64) and he eventually finished five strokes back.
2013 Notes: Played another full schedule and finished 53rd on the money list. Best finish came in June when he played in the final grouping at the inaugural Encompass Championship. But a closing-round 73 at North Shore CC dropped him to a T-10th, his only top-10 of the year.
2014 Notes: Played in 23 of the 24 events for which he was eligible and finished 53rd on the money list. Was second after the opening round at The Senior Open Championship and hung in to eventually finish T-6th at Royal Porthcawl. Performance in Wales was his best in a stroke-play event in more than two years. Also finished T-5th in June at the Big Cedar Lodge Legends of Golf along with teammate Tom Pernice, Jr.
2015 Notes: Had his best finish in 21 starts at the Bass Pro Shops Legends of Golf where he teamed with Tom Pernice, Jr., to finish T-14th. He was 75th on the money list.
2016 Notes: Played in 19 events with a pair of top-25 finishes. Best finish was T-12th at the Bass Pro Shops Legends with partner Tom Pernice, Jr., was T17 at the Tucson Conquistadores Classic. Was 82nd on the money list and Schwab Rankings.
2017 Notes: Did not play an event after the 3M Championship in early August due to a detached retina. In 15 starts best finish was T-7th at the Insperity Invitational, his best effort since he was T-6th at the 2014 Senior Open Championship. Finished 71st on the money list.
2018 Notes: Still battling injuries only played in 9 PGA Tour Champions events and none after the end of June. Was T-26th at the Bass Pro Shops Legends of golf with partner Tom Pernice Jr. Best individual start, T-59th at the Rapiscan Systems.
2019 Notes: Again was T-26th at the Bass Pro Shops Legends of golf with new partner Scott Verplank.
