Larry Mize

Mize first picked up a golf club at age 9. His father was a scratch player and helped him get started. Worked on a Masters leader board at Augusta National's third hole during his early teen years. Played college golf at Georgia Tech, where he won the Atlanta Amateur Championship.
Played full-time on the PGA Tour between 1982 and 2008. In 608 events, won four times, was runner-up 11 times, 3rd nine times, and recorded 86 top-10 finishes. Had earnings of just under $7.9 million. His most lucrative season came in 1993 when he won twice and earned $724,660. The biggest win of his career came at the 1987 Masters in a dramatic playoff after birdieing the final hole to force a playoff with Greg Norman and Seve Ballesteros. Ballesteros was eliminated at the first extra hole, and Mize chipped in for birdie from the right side of No. 11 green, the second playoff hole, to defeat Norman. Member of the 1987 U.S. Ryder Cup team.
In 2009, he enjoyed a productive first full season on PGA Tour Champions with 11 top-10s in 20 appearances, including three top-5s in major championships. Went over the $1-million mark in official earnings for the first time in his Tour career, and his 15th-place finish on the 2009 money list was his highest standing since he was 13th on the 1993 PGA Tour earnings list.
In 2010, Mize claimed his first PGA Tour Champions victory in the inaugural Montreal Championship. The win came in his 36th career PGA Tour Champions start and ended a victory drought of 16 years, 10 months, 26 days. A month prior to his victory, he parlayed some strong play on the weekend into a T-6th finish at the Senior PGA Championship. Fired consecutive rounds of 70 on the weekend at the Colorado Golf Club.
2011 Notes: Dropped from 19th to 37th on the money list and had just two top-10 finishes over the final four months of the season.
2012 Notes: Managed to secure a spot inside the top-30 on the money list after the final full-field event, the AT&T Championship, earning a trip to the season-ending Charles Schwab Cup Championship for the third time in four seasons. Shot a final-round 66 at the AT&T Championship to climb from T-65th after 36 holes to a T-25th finish. With a T-15th finish at the Charles Schwab Cup, secured the 29th position in season earnings.
2013 Notes: Placed 46th on the PGA Tour Champions money list with a pair of top-10 finishes. He and teammate Hal Sutton posted a T-4th finish at the Liberty Mutual Insurance Legends of Golf. Mize finished T-9th in his first start of the season, at the Allianz Championship. Made his 30th start at the Masters, but missed the cut.
2014 Notes: In his 21 starts, finished among the top 25 four times. His best result came late in the year, a T-14th at the Pacific Links Hawaii Championship. Was also T-15th at the Greater Gwinnett Championship near Atlanta in April. Played in his 31st Masters and made the cut, finishing 51st. It was the first time he had played on the weekend at Augusta National since 2009.
2015 Notes: Played 18 events during the year, with one top-10 finish, placing 64th on the money list and 70th in the Schwab rankings. Shot 67-68 on the weekend at En-Joie GC to finish T-8th at the Dick's Sporting Goods Open, his first top-10 effort on PGA Tour Champions since his first start of the 2013 season. Teamed with Hal Sutton to finish T-15th at the Bass Pro Shops Legends of Golf in April.
2016 Notes: Finished T-9th at the Regions Tradition. In the fall, was T-3rd in back-to-back weeks at the Toshiba Classic and SAS Championship. Finished the year 44th in the Schwab ranking and 40th on the money list.
2017 Notes: Made 21 starts and advanced to the first round of the Charles Schwab Cup playoffs, but narrowly missed advancing to the second event. Was 55th on the money list after the first event, one spot shy of advancing. His best finish of the year was T-10th at the Chubb Classic.
2018 Notes: Made 22 starts and finished 65th in the Schwab Cup ranking. Was T-9th in the unofficial Diamond Resorts Invitational. He finished T-10th at the Bass Pro Shops Legends with his partner Scott Parel. His best individual finish was T-17th at the Constellation Senior Championship.
2019 Notes: Played in 19 PGA Tour Champions events with just one top-25 finish. Was 78th in the Schwab Cup rankings. His best finish was T-17th with partner Scott Parel in the Bass Pro Shops Legends of Golf. Best individual finish was T-33rd at the Cologuard Classic.
2020 Notes: He was T-9th at the Cologuard Classic, his first individual top-10 since the 2017 Chubb Classic.
2021 Notes: Made 31 starts on the PGA Tour Champions in 2020/21 with one top-ten and finished 74th in the Schwab Cup ranking. His best finish in 2021 was T-23rd at the Senior PGA Championship.
2022 Notes: Played in six events on the PGA Tour Champions, best finish T-39th at the Mitsubishi Electric Championship at Hualalai. Mize has been hampered by ongoing back problems for close to ten years.
2023 Notes: Will be making his 40th consecutive start at the Masters. It will also be his last as a competitor. Since his first start in 1984, when he finished T-11th, he has never missed a Masters. Mize will be one of four players to have played in every Masters this century (since 2000), along with Mike Weir, Sandy Lyle, and Vijay Singh.
