Tommy Armour III

Grandson of World Golf Hall of Famer Tommy Armour who won the 1927 U.S. Open, 1930 PGA Championship, and 1931 Open Championship conducted by The R&A.
Began playing golf at age 10, joining his mother and father. Qualified for the PGA Tour for the 1982 season, but won just $4,254. He kept trying to get his card back but didn't make it until the fall of 1987. Meanwhile, he traveled the world, spending most of his time on the European and Asian Tours, gaining the experience and patience he needed to play on the PGA Tour. The highlight of his career was a victory in the 2003 Valero Texas Open, where he shot the lowest 72-hole score in PGA Tour history, 254, a record that still stands.
Attempted to regain playing privileges on the PGA Tour for 2012 by going through the fall qualifying process. After being the medalist at the second stage in Panama City, Fla., he advanced to the final stage in La Quinta, Calif., but withdrew after five rounds of the six-round event when he was out of contention. In his PGA Tour career, he played in 617 events, with two wins, seven runner-up finishes, and 41 top-10s. He made 314 cuts and won $9,458,248. Played on the Korn Ferry Tour full time in 1994, winning twice and finishing seventh on the money list, which got him back to the PGA Tour in 1995. Has played a total of 33 Korn Ferry events, posting two wins and five top-10 finishes.
Started his PGA Tour Champions career at the ACE Group Classic in 2010, where he was runner-up. His first year was a big success as he won $1,121,220 to finish 13th on the money list. It was his second-best season in his entire career, along with three runner-up finishes. He also had a third-place finish and 10 top-10 finishes.
2011 Notes: Started slowly and was 50th on the money list after the U.S. Senior Open. Finished strong in his last eight starts with three top 10s, including a second-place finish at the Insperity Championship. He finished the year 28th on the money list.
2012 Notes: Troubled by bone spurs early in the season, he missed almost two months following arthroscopic surgery for bursitis in April. He eventually returned to PGA Tour Champions in June, at The Principal Charity Classic, but did not record his first top-10 finish until late in the season when he closed with a 6-under par 66 to finish T-4th at the SAS Championship in October.
2013 Notes: Health issues limited his season to just 15 appearances, and he did not record a top-10 finish in those starts. Missed nearly three months over the summer with a back problem, which forced him to withdraw from June's Regions Tradition after just one round. His best finish was in late May at the Senior PGA Championship, where he was T-13th.
2014 Notes: Had his best finish of the season when he put together three straight sub-par rounds to finish T-8th at the Boeing Classic in late August. Was on the leaderboard throughout the final round, but fell out of contention with a 1-over par 37 on his back nine. Teamed with Billy Andrade for a T-10th finish in the Champions Division at the Big Cedar Lodge Legends of Golf in June. Following the official season, he won the Calloway Invitational at Pebble Beach for the third time by defeating Lee Janzen in a playoff.
2015 Notes: Started his year with a T-6th at the Allianz Championship and T-8th Greater Gwinnett Championship. Had his best finish in nearly three years when he was T-5th at the Shaw Charity Classic in August in Calgary. His performance included opening and closing rounds of 65. Finished his year 40th on the money list and 44th in the Schwab rankings.
2016 Notes: Finished T-6th at the Tucson Conquistadores Classic in March, was T-7th at the Insperity Invitational then T-3rd at the Regions Tradition followed by a T-5th at the Senior PGA Championship. Finished 34th on the money list and 33rd in Schwab ranking, it was his most productive year on PGA Tour Champions since he was a rookie in 2010 and 2011.
2017 Notes: Enjoyed his most productive year since 2016, finishing 32nd on the Charles Schwab Cup money list and posting five top-10 finishes, including a T-2nd place finish at the Insperity Invitational, one shot back of winner John Daly. It was his fifth runner-up finish on PGA Tour Champions and first since 2011. Also had a T-3rd at the Pacific Links Bear Mountain Championship, he had 5 top-ten finishes in a year that he finished 32nd on the money list and 36th in the Schwab Ranking.
2018 Notes: Played in 22 PGA Tour Champions event with three top-25 finishes. Best finish T-18th at the Principal Charity Classic, T-20th Sanford International, and T-23rd Mitsubishi Electric Classic. Advanced to the first Playoffs event, the Dominion Energy Charity Classic, and finished 62nd in the standings.
2019 Notes: Played in 22 PGA Tour Champions events with three top-25 finishes. Was 61st on the Schwab Cup points list. Best finish T-12th Senior PGA Championship.
2020 & 2021 Notes: Has struggled the past two years, best finish T-19th at the 2020 Ally Challenge. In 2021 was T-13th at the Insperity Invitational.
