Brian Barnes

Barnes' father was secretary at Burnham and Berrow, an exclusive English golf club. His father-in-law is Max Faulkner who won the 1951 British Open. In 1964 he won the Youths Championship, the premiere tournament in England for juniors. Barnes gained a reputation as a long hitter, and a ability to deal with inclement weather on seaside courses. It proved most valuable throughout his career and was a prime reason for his victory in the PGA Club professional championship at Prince's in 1989. He has played in 20 British Opens, finishing in the Top-10 two times, with his best finish coming in 1972 when he finished 5th. Barnes has competed in six European Ryder Cup teams and his most famous for beating Jack Nicklaus twice in one day during the 1975 matches.
* At the end of 1995 was hospitalized for phlebitis which he got as a result of a spider bite. In the summer of 1997 he was troubled with a cyst on his left knee for much of the summer. In 1999 was beset with phlebitis as well as severe arthritis in his hands and feet. Took painkillers to play in the PGA Seniors' Championship and the U.S. Senior Open but was forced to withdraw form both of these
