Life has been tough for Corfield, who has recently moved home back to Burnham from Wrington. He started a series of unsuccessful annual bids to win a European Tour card in 2003 while still an amateur. He came to prominence the following year when he was beaten in the final of the British Amateur by Scot Stuart Wilson at St Andrews. Had the result been reversed, he would have played in The Open and the US Masters in 2005.
He is renting a house near the course for his support group. He will take his wife, baby son, coach Stuart Martin, the former Burnham and Somerset player who is now head professional at Pachesham Park Golf Centre in Surrey, and his caddy â?? Burnham member and Somerset county player David Gregory, from Weston-super-Mare, who also works in the Wells pro shop.
