Robin Byrd

Started golf at age 11 with a mission in mind - to defeat his father who wanted a competitive rival. It took him a year to succeed.
The director of instructions at the Leadbetter Academy in Central Texas, he has worked with David Leadbetter for 16 years.
He previously worked with Chuck Cook, who worked with Tom Kite and coached the late Payne Stewart. He has won approximately 40 mini-tour events around the world. Gained his cards on the Nike, Australasian and Asian Tours. Made it four when finishing 13th in the European Tour Qualifying School in 1999.
In 2000, he missed the cut in 19 of his 28 European Tour events. Finished sixth at the Brazil Rio de Janeiro 500 Years Open, 14th at the Moroccan Open, and 20th at the French Open.
Played full-time on the Korn Ferry Tour in 1999, 2004, and 2005. In 60 starts, he made the cut in 31, with two top-10 finishes. Only played once on the PGA Tour, missing the cut at the 1985 Greater Greensboro Open.
In 2010 when he turned 50 he had new horizons, playing senior golf. In 2010 he finished T-28th at PGA Tour Q-School which wasn't good enough to get his card but was able to Monday qualify. Between 2011 and 2015 he played in 13 PGA Tour Champions event, his best finish was T-38th in the 2012 Dick's Sporting Goods Open.
After that spell he just started to tour around and play in any mini-tour events he could get into. Byrd figured he has played golf in every country that has a golf course. "I played in Russia twice," said Byrd. "Ive played on the Web.com Tour, the European Tour, the Asian Tour, the Australian Tour, the Japan Tour. What other tours are there?" He also has won 12 times on the Sun Belt Senior Tour in Florida and made the cut in one of the three U.S. Senior Open Championships for which he qualified. "I've had Tour card on every Tour except the PGA Tour," Byrd said.
Since his last start on the PGA Tour Champions in 2015 he has loyally entered and tried to make the PGA Tour Champions. He finished T-50th in the final stages in 2016, in 2018 he didn't make it out of the 1st stage but in 2019 a funny thing happened to him. He finished T-3rd in the first stage and then in the final stage in Scottsdale, Arizona Byrd finished T-4th, thus earning a full PGA Tour Champions card for 2020. At 59 years old he could be the oldest to ever qualify for the PGA Tour Champions (records aren't kept on this).
2020 & 2021 Notes: It's too bad that he picked such a rotten year to qualify. Going into the Senior PGA Championship he has played in 15 events over the last two years and his best finish was T-35th at the 2020 Dominion Energy Charity.
