Ross Bain

Ross made his debut in Asia in 2001 and finished second behind Thongchai Jaidee in the Wills Indian Open. He went on to keep his card for the following season but has failed to finish in the top-60 of the Order of Merit in the past four years. Regained his card by finishing second in the Qualifying School in 2006. He delivered three top-20s that season and a tied ninth place at the Volkswagen Masters-China. His best outing in 2003 was eighth in the Volvo China Open. Only one top-10 finish in 2005 when he came in sixth at the Thai Airways International Thailand Open. He acknowledges that he is no longer a rookie in Asia and is working hard to achieving his career breakthrough in the region. Attended University North Carolina from 1995 to 1997 and was selected as an All American in 1996. Has lived in Dubai since young as his father runs an engineering business in the Middle East.
Here is an article that was in GolfBlogger.Co.Uk in which Ross Bain talked about playing playing in this year's Open at Carnoustie:
??It's a golfing dream come true to play in The Open in Scotland. Obviously I'm Scottish so I'm looking forward to it and it's going to be good fun.
I have been playing a bit on links course and I'm going to go to Scotland early to prepare for this championship. My wife would normally come with me but she is eight months pregnant so she will not be there. But my family and friends will be turning up.
I've played at Carnoustie quite a few times before. I was there for the Scottish Amateur Open when I was 20. What I know is that the course has a good layout but is very challenging. So it will be interesting to see how they set it up for the Open. I've heard that they have made it a little bit longer as well which will be a challenge.
It was probably 10 years ago when I last played at Carnoustie. I can't remember how I played but I think I performed fairly decent. It was a matchplay event. I've played the course around eight to nine times previously so I consider myself quite familiar with it. I'm eager to get back there and play in a Major.
I'm from the West side of Scotland while Carnoustie is located on the East Coast. It's not too far from where I used to stay. I haven't been back to Scotland in the past four years, so it's something to look forward to. I played at the British Open Final Qualifying in Scotland in 2002 which was the last time I was in Scotland.
To be honest, of all the Majors, this is the one where an outsider can fare well because of the weather and you never know what to expect. My goal is to be well prepared and play the best that I can. I like the style of play where I have to strike the ball low and my ball striking is generally quite good so I'm hoping that I can have a decent outing.
The good thing with the Open is that with the elements such as the wind and set up of the course, you really have to hit it on target.
So it's back to ball striking again which is the strong point of my game so in almost every aspect when I'm trying to tackle the course, it boils down to accuracy. I've got a long putter now which has made my game a lot more stable.
Of course I'm going to feel the pressure of playing in a Major in Scotland especially with family and friends around. Coupled with the massive crowds, it's only natural to have the first tee nerves but hopefully I can settle down quickly and play some good golf.
But above everything else, I'm happy just to be there and live my golfing dream.?
