Scott Fernandez

Most 2-year-olds spend their free time playing with toy cars and dolls. Scott Fernandez was not like most 2-year-olds. He grew up on the ski slopes of the Sierra Nevada Ski Resort in Granada, Spain. He dad Fermin was a ski instructor at the biggest ski resort in Spain and Fernandez learned how to ski at the same time he was learning to walk. While his father was teaching him to ski, his mother who came from a family of golfers, decided that Scott should also play golf. If Fernandez wasn't skiing, he could be found outside whacking whiffle balls with a plastic golf club. But Skiing seemed to take over as by the age of 10, Fernandez was one of the best skiers in Europe. As he got older and broke legs in skiing accidents, golf was starting to look a lot less painful for the teen.
By 15 the lure of golf was more important, he was able to get into the IES Ortega y Gasset , a school in Madrid which was accepting six male golfers.
With that decision he dropped Skiing and soon after was selected the Spanish National Team. He won the 2011 Spanish Junior and was the #2 golfer under 18 in all of Spain. This opened the door for him to go to Iowa State and along the way was the 2013 World University champion and the 2014 European Team Champion.
After graduating Iowa State he turned pro in 2015 and got his card to play on the Challenge Tour for 2016. After missing the cut at the SSE Scottish Hydro it was off to Gailes Links to qualify for the Open Championship. After qualifying, he was able to play 18 holes at Troon the next day and see what faces him the week of the Open.
