Yuxin Lin

Lin started playing golf at age 6 when his father took him to the driving range in Beijing. He has mastered the English language by going to an American school in Beijing, starting in fourth grade. "He speaks perfect English and has a super dry sense of humor," his golf coach Boyd Summerhays said.
He's already a young man who plays a full schedule of professional and amateur events, travels around with his own launch monitor, and at 6-foot-1, 175 pounds, is built like a left-handed Brooks Koepka.
He played in his first professional event in 2014 at the age of 13 at the China Tour's Cadillac Championship, where he missed the cut. In 2016, he played five events on the China Tour and at the Fiji International, making the cut in four of the six.
In 2016, he played his first European Tour event at age 15 at the Shenzhen International, missing the cut. Two months later, he returned to the Cadillac Championship on the CTPTC and earned his first top-10 result in a professional event, shooting 68-69-69-65 to finish T-9th, his best finish in 11 professional starts on the year. Afterward, he went to America to work on his game with Boyd Summerhays.
In 2017, he played again at the Shenzhen International on the European Tour and at 16, made the cut, finishing T-39th. In October, he played in the Hainan Open on the European Challenge Tour, and after rounds of 71-68-66, reached the final round in the top-five, just six strokes behind the leader. In his front nine in the final round, he shot 31 to get within one shot of the lead, but he made a triple-bogey 8 at the 13th hole and finished with a 71 for a T-7th result.
Two weeks later, he traveled to New Zealand for the Asia-Pacific Amateur Championship. It was his second AAC, having finished T-21st in Korea the previous year. He started the week as one of the lesser-known members of the China team, but he ended his second round with a 360-yard drive, then holed out from 82 yards for an eagle and the clubhouse lead. Lin started the final round one stroke ahead but lost the lead to Andy Zhang who, at age 14 in 2012, became the youngest-ever competitor at the U.S. Open. Zhang, who was China's top-ranked amateur, made birdie at 13 to increase his lead to two shots, but Lin made birdie at the 14th hole. When Zhang bogeyed 15, the pair drew even at 11-under and remained level with two holes to play. That's when Lin's power game and self-confidence came into play. He birdied the par-4 17th by driving the green at Royal Wellington Golf Club. After a 216-yard 5-iron to six feet, he made the eagle putt for a final-round 65 and a three-stroke win over Zhang. With the victory, he secured a berth at the Masters and the British Open. Lin, who turned 17 two weeks before the tournament, is the third Chinese player to win the championship, following victories by Guan Tianlang in 2012, at age 14, and Jin, who was 17 when he won.
Lin is home-schooled and completes a lot of school work online during tournaments. His mother travels with him everywhere now and keeps the big-hitting teenager on the straight and narrow.
Lin missed the cut at the Masters and the British Open and was T-48th at the Changsha Championship. Later in the year, he finished 9th while defending his Asia-Pacific Amateur Championship.
2019 Notes: Lin started college life at USC where he majored in communication. He also found time to play in eight events in China and made the cut in six of them. His best finish was T-8th at the Tianjin Binhal Forest Open. He made it into the round of 32 in the U.S. Junior Amateur playing at Inverness Club in Toledo, Ohio. He lost to Deven Ramachandran 1-up. The following week, played in the Pacific Coast Amateur and finished T-39th. He returned to China to play in the Asia-Pacific Amateur Championship held at Sheshan International Golf Club in Shanghai. It turned into a perfect homecoming for Lin, who bogeyed the 72nd hole to drop into a tie with defending champion Takumi Kanaya. In the playoff, Lin brought immense cheers to the home fans when he birdied the par-5 18th hole twice in the playoff to defeat Kanaya and become the second two-time winner of the AAC. With the win, he earned an invitation to the 2020 Masters and a place at Royal St. George for the 149th British Open.
2020 Notes: Stayed an amateur, playing in several amateur and professional tournaments. Transferred from USC to Florida. Won the Southern Highlands Collegiate.
