Amy Yang

Also, know as Hee Young Yang, she started playing golf at age 10 and credits her parents and family as the individuals who most influenced her career. Her family moved to Australia for golf. Her father is a former physical education teacher in Korea. She was based in Queensland for 14 months prior to her victory in the ANZ Ladies Masters in 2006. She was involved in a golf program at the Robina High School on Australia's Gold Coast. Her coach, Lawrie Montague, was the Australian national coach from 1992-99 and is also the owner of Australia High-Performance Golf Academy.
Yang enjoys shopping, watching movies, and hanging out with her friends when she is not playing golf. Her favorite on-course memory was her first hole-in-one. It landed squarely in the hole without a bounce, and she won a watch for it. She says the hardest thing she's ever had to do is learn English.
After winning the 2008 HypoVereinsbank Ladies German Open presented by Audi on the Ladies European Tour, she donated her first-place earnings to the victims of the earthquake in China's Sichuan province. Won the 2006 ANZ Ladies Masters on the Ladies European Tour as an amateur to become the youngest winner ever on the LET at 16 years, 9 months, 18 days. She was offered a special exemption to join the LET at the age of 17 and became the youngest member. Was also the youngest to win the Queensland Amateur Championship in 2005 and finished second in the 2006 Australian Junior Championship.
In 2006, she turned professional in October and competed on the LET, finishing fourth at the Dubai Ladies Masters.
In 2007, competed on the LET and recorded 5 top-20 finishes, including a fourth-place finish in the Wales Ladies Championship. She tied for 54th at the LPGA Final Qualifying Tournament to earn non-exempt status for the 2008 LPGA season.
In 2008, recorded a season-best T-9th in the Hana Bank-Kolon Championship. She also competed on the LET, winning the HypoVereinsbank Ladies German Open presented by Audi and the Scandinavian TPC hosted by Annika Sorenstam. Recorded eight additional Top-10 finishes and ended the year ranked fourth on the LET New Star Money List. Returned to the LPGA Final Qualifying Tournament, where she finished runner-up to earn Priority List Category 11 for the 2009 LPGA season.
In 2009, recorded a career-best T-3rd in the CVS/pharmacy LPGAÃ?â??Ã? Challenge, where she carded a career-low 66 in the final round. She finished T-9th in the McDonald's LPGAÃ?â??Ã? Championship.
In 2010, recorded a career-best runner-up finish in the LPGA Tour Championship. She finished fourth in the Sybase Match-Play Championship and T-5th in the U.S. Women's Open, Ricoh Women's British Open, and Navistar LPGA Classic.
In 2011, recorded seven top-10 finishes, including 2nd in the Walmart NW Arkansas Championship, where she lost in a playoff to Yani Tseng; she added a T-2nd in the Sunrise LPGA Taiwan Championship, where she crossed the $2 million mark in career earnings; fourth in the RICOH Women's British Open; a T6 in the Avnet LPGA Classic; seventh in the Honda LPGA Thailand; a T-7th in the LPGA HanaBank Championship, and a T-10th in the U.S. Women's Open. She won the KB Star Championship on the KLPGA, her fourth-career international victory.
2012 Notes: Played in 22 events, making 20 cuts and earning $844,305 (13th on the Tour money list). Had five top-10 finishes and tied career-best finish with a runner-up in the U.S. Women's Open. Finished ninth on the Tour in rounds in the 60s with 23.
2013 Notes: Made 20 cuts in 22 events and finished 18th on the Tour money list. Recorded six top-10 finishes and became a Rolex First-Time winner in the LPGA KEB HanaBank Championship. Had 30 rounds in the 60s, which was good for eighth on Tour. Crossed the $3 million mark in career earnings after a T-5th in the Wegmans LPGA Championship.
2014 Notes: She was 25th on the money list with $618,180 and 44th in CME points with five top-10s in 21 starts. She was T-2nd in the Founders Cup, one shot back of winner Karrie Webb. She was 4th in the U.S. Women's Open. After sharing the 54-hole lead with eventual winner Michelle Wie, Yang shot a Sunday 74 to finish four strokes back. She was one of four players (with Wie, Stacy Lewis, and Lexi Thompson) with a top 10s in the ANA Inspiration and the U.S. Women's Open.
2015 Notes: Made the cut in 22 of 24 starts with 10 top-10 finishes to rank a career-best 6th on the money list and 7th in CME points. Took her second career victory at the Honda LPGA Thailand by two strokes over Yani Tseng, Stacy Lewis, and Mirim Lee with a final-round 69. That came a week after finishing 2nd at the ISPS Handa Women's Australian Open. She added a T-2nd at the U.S. Women's Open. Yang led by four after 54 holes, lost the lead with bogeys on 9, 11, 14, and 15 in the final round but regained a share of the lead with an eagle on 16 and birdie on 17, but bogeyed 18 to shoot a 71 and lose by one shot to In Gee Chun. Yang equaled Hall of Famer Beth Daniel's LPGA record for consecutive birdies when she birdied the last nine holes of the LPGA KEB-HanaBank Championship and also tied the nine-hole record with a 27. She shot a 62 on the day and finished T-4th.
2016 Notes: Played in 22 LPGA events making 22 cuts with nine top-10 finishes. Has six top-3 finishes, with back-to-back 3rds early in the season and back-to-back 2nds later. She was T-3rd at the Honda LPGA Thailand and 3rd at the HSBC Women's Champions. Her first of two T-2nds came at the VOA Texas Shootout, two shots behind Jenny Shin, and the 2nd at the Yokohama Tire Championship, one back of Ariya Jutanugarn. She added another T-3rd at the U.S. Women's Open and Sime Darby LPGA Malaysia. Finished 13th on the money list with $1,152,686 and was 15th in CME points. She was T-4th at the Rio Olympics as a South Korea's women's golf team member. Yang shot 67 in the final round to finish at 9-under 284, one shot back of bronze medalist Shanshan Feng.
2017 Notes: Played in 26 LPGA events, making 22 cuts. Finished in the top 10 in three of the five majors (T8 at ANA Inspiration, T-4th at KPMG Women's PGA Championship, T-8th at U.S. Women's Open). Won the Honda LPGA Thailand tournament for the second time in three years, shooting a bogey-free 68 in the final round to finish at 22-under 266 to beat So Yeon Ryu by 5 shots. Yang also won this tournament in 2015. She was T-2nd at the Walmart NW Arkansas Championship, two strokes back of winner So Yeon Ryu. She finished 18th on the money list with $991,855 in earnings.
2018 Notes: Played in 23 LPGA Tour events making 20 cuts with eight top-ten finishes. She was 3rd, 3 times. The first was a T-3rd at the Pure Silk Bahamas LPGA Classic she was 3 shots back of winner Brittany Lincicome. Next was a T-3rd at the Thornberry Creek LPGA Classic, she finished 11 shots back of Sei Young Kim. The last was a 3rd place finish at the Indy Women in Tech Championship, she was a shot out of the Park/Salas playoff. Yang earned $809,492 and was 24th on the money list and 19th in the Race to CME.
2019 Notes: Played in 24 LPGA Tour events making 21 cuts with six top-ten finishes. Was 17th on the money list with $941,956 in earnings and was 13th on the CME points list. Yang won the Honda LPGA Thailand for the 3rd time in 5 years by shooting 22-under 266 with a final-round 65 to beat Minjee Lee by 2 shots. Yang also won the tournament in 2015 and 2017. Yang also was T-5th at the Hugel-Air Premia L.A. Open and T-4th at the LPGA Mediheal Championship. She was T-3rd at the Thornberry Creek LPGA Classic, she shot 64 in the 1st and 3rd rounds and was four shots back of winner Shanshan Feng. She was 3rd again at the BMW Ladies Championship in Korea after shooing 67-67 over the weekend and was three shots back of the Ha Na Jang/Danielle Kang playoff.
2020 Notes: Played in 13 LPGA Tour events making 10 cuts. She was 66th on the money list with earnings of $171,438 and was 69th on the CME points list. Yang's best finish was T-12th at the Cambia Portland Classic.
2021 Notes: Played in 22 LPGA Tour events making 16 cuts with six top-ten finishes. Finished 33rd on the CME Points list and 37th on the money list with $548,544 in earnings. Was T-10th at the LOTTE Championship. Her game heated up starting in May, she was T-3rd at the Honda LPGA Thailand, two shots back of winner Ariya Jutanugarn. She was T-9th at the KPMG Women's PGA Championship and then T-5th at the Marathon Classic. She finished T-6th at the Dow Great Lakes Bay Invitational with partner Haeji Kang. She was T-10th at the Amundi Evian Championship. Ended her season with a T-49th finish in the CME Group Tour Championship.
2022 Notes: Played in 20 LPGA Tour events, making 14 cuts with three top-ten finishes. She was 58th on the money list with $439,097 in earnings and was 54th in CME points. Was T-6th at the HSBC Women's Championship, she was the 2nd round co-leader but shot a 71- 68 over the weekend to finish four shots back of winner Jin Young Ko. Shot 66-64 over the weekend to finish T-4th at the Honda LPGA Thailand, three shots back of the Nana Koerstz Madsen/Xiyu Lin playoff. Was T-10th at the JTBC Classic. She ended her season with a T-21st finish at the CME Group Tour Championship.
2023 Notes: She was T-4th at the Chevron Championship, two strokes out of the playoff Lilia Vu/Any Yin playoff. She was the 54-hole leader at the Meijer Classic after three straight 67s, shot 69 in the final round to finish T-3rd, three shots back of winner Leona Maguire.
