Angel Yin

Yin started playing golf at the age of 6. Yin's parents moved from Beijing to the U.S. one year before she was born.
In 2010, at age 12, she became the second-youngest California Women's Amateur winner. Mina Harigae was about one month younger when she won the tournament at age 12 in 2001.
Yin had a decorated amateur career. As a junior at Arcadia High School, she earned a spot on the Rolex Junior All-America First Team for the second consecutive year in 2015 (fourth time overall as a Rolex Junior All-American). The 17-year-old began the year with her first AJGA win at the ANNIKA Invitational, where she had a 12-under-par record score and never finished outside of the top 10. She finished in the top 10 in back-to-back events in June -- at the Rolex Girls Junior Championship and the Rolex Tournament of Champions. Was runner-up in the 2015 U.S. Girls' Junior Championship.
Won the 2010 California Women's Amateur at age 12 and won again two years later.
Qualified for the 2010 U.S. Women's Amateur Public Links at age 11 and in 2011, made it to the Round of 16 at that championship at age 12. The international play helped the U.S. team retain the PING Junior Solheim Cup with a 2-1-0 record.
Qualified for the 2012 U.S. Women's Open at age 13. She finished T-55th in the 2013 Kraft Nabisco Championship as a 14-year-old. For a brief moment during the first round, Angel found herself leading after birdies on the first and second holes. This was Yin's second career start in an LPGA major.
Finished T25 at the LET Q-School and was a rookie in 2016, turning pro at age 17.
2016 Notes: Played in 12 LET tournaments and secured nine top-25 finishes throughout the season. During her rookie season, Yin's best performance came at the Lalla Meryem Cup, where she finished third. Yin finished the year 11th in the Order of Merit with euro94,106 and 3rd in the Rookie of the Year rankings. She qualified for the LPGA Tour in 2017 by finishing T-3rd at Qualifying School.
2017 Notes: Played in 25 LPGA events, making 20 cuts. Finished in the top 10 five times. She was T-5th at the VOA Texas Shootout for her first top-10 finish on the LPGA Tour. She had her second straight T-5th finish at the Lorena Ochoa Match Play, losing Michelle Wie in 20 holes in the quarterfinals. She captured her first professional title at the LET season-ending Omega Dubai Ladies Classic. Finished fourth on the tour in average driving distance (272.45) and fifth with 10 total eagles. Selected by USA Captain Juli Inkster as a captain's pick for the 2017 Solheim Cup and posted a 1-1-1 record. Halve her singles match with Karine Icher.
2018 Notes: Played in 27 LPGA events making 21 cuts with four top-ten finishes. She was 30th on the money list with $667,423 and 57th in the Race to CME. She was 2nd at the CP Women's Open 4 shots back of winner Brook Henderson. Yin was T-3rd at the LPGA Mediheal Championship, 4 shots back of the Lydia Ko/Minjee Lee playoff. She also was T-4th at the KPMG Women's PGA Championship 3 shots back of the Park/Hataoka/Ryu playoff.
2019 Notes: Played in 24 LPGA events making 19 cuts with three top-ten finishes. She was 28th on the money list with $755,784 in earnings and also was 32nd on the CME points list. She was T-4th at the ISPS Handa Australian Open, 6 shots back of winner Nelly Korda. Was T-2nd at the U.S. Women's Open, shot a final-round 68 to finish two shots back of winner Jeongeun Lee6. Finished T-10th at the CP Women's Open. She played for the U.S. Solheim Cup team and had a 2-1-0 record. She lost her singles match to Azharaa Munoz 2 & 1. She purchased her former instructor's golf academy in Westlake Village, Calif., and officially opened the Yin Golf Academy in June.
2020 Notes: Played in 12 LPGA Tour events making 10 cuts. She was 84th on the money list with $106,122 in earnings. Placed 75th on the CME points list. Her best finish was T-17th at the Cambia Portland Classic and the LPGA Drive On Championship Reynolds Lake Oconee. At the Marathon LPGA Classic in July, she started feeling pain in her left shoulder as the pain shot down her arm at impact. She didn?t have the strength to hit the ball like she used to with the driver and lost 10 yards off the tee. The pain continued, and in seeking help from a doctor in Orlando, she used a TENS machine to help ease the pain. In order to compensate for her pain, Yin changed her swing during the offseason. She spent two weeks at home in California making adjustments. She also changed her clubs. The changes were both a curse and a blessing as she learned to hit a cut for the first time. But some of the tweaks she made created further issues with her swing, which she had to sort out with her longtime coach, Bobby Lasken.
2021 Notes: Played in 22 LPGA Tour events making 14 cuts with five top-ten finals. She was 50th on the CME Points list one 42nd on the money list with earnings of $494,439. Started her season with a T-7th finish at the Gainbridge LPGA. She was T-3rd at the Honda LPGA Thailand after shooting a first-round 72 to finish two shots back of winner Ariya Jutanugarn. After the 72, she shot 65-65-66. She was 6th at the U.S. Women's Open, four shots back of the Yuka Saso/Nasa Hataoka playoff. Yin was T-9th at the LPGA MEDIHEAL Championship and T-6th at the Dow Great Lakes Bay Invitational with partner Brittany Altomare. She ended her season having to withdraw at the CME Group Tour Championship after a first-round 79. Yin still experienced problems with her shoulder and did everything to avoid surgery. But a year after the pain first hit her, she felt that she was feeling just 50% of what her game used to be. At some points the pain was still massive to the point that some days she couldn't get out of bed and still played with the problem.
2022 Notes: Played in 25 LPGA Tour events making 16 cuts with one top-ten finish. She was 77th in the CME rankings and 65th on the money list with earnings of $384,589. Shot a final round 67 to finish T-3rd at the Cognizant Founders Cup, three shots back of winner Minjee Lee. It was the first time that she felt the shoulder was better. She still struggled during the year, but the pain got better and she worked on her game to regain the game she lost in the last two years of the shoulder injury.
2023 Notes: The good news was the shoulder was healed and she no longer had any pain. She had to deal with the psychological problems of the injury. With lots of work things got better and at the Chevron Championship her game came around. She made birdie on the 72nd hole to force a playoff with lilia Vu, but on the first hole of the playoff hit her approach into the water and lost the playoff. It was her third runner-up finish in 144 LPGA starts and first since finish T-2nd at the 2019 U.S. Women's Open. She finished T-5th at the Cognizant Founders Cup, six shots back of the Jin Young Ko/Miinjee Lee playoff despite shooting a final round 74. Yin won her group in the Bank of Hope Match-Play and lost in the Round of 16 to Celine Boutier 4 & 2 to finish T-9th.
