Chella Choi

Choi started playing golf at age 11. Her first name is Woon-Joong. She credits her coach, Jae Jang, and her father as the individuals most influencing her career. She won the 2005 Korean Junior Championship and was a member of the 2006 Korean National Team.
In 2008, she turned professional and competed in 17 events on the Futures (now Symetra) Tour, recording four top-10 finishes, including a tie for second in the Bright House Networks Open. She won the LPGA Sectional Qualifying Tournament in Venice, Fla., and tied for 21st in the LPGA Final Qualifying Tournament, winning a four-hole, four-way playoff to earn one of two final spots in Priority List Category 11 for the 2009 LPGA season.
In 2009, she recorded a T-20th at the LPGA Tour Championship.
In 2010, finished T-16th in the Safeway Classic.
In 2011, she recorded a career-best T-7th in the LPGA HanaBank Championship.
In 2012, she played in 27 events, making 23 cuts and earning $634,622 to finish 20th on the official money list. She notched seven top-10 finishes, and three top-five finishes, and recorded a career-best tie for second in the 2012 Manulife Financial LPGA Classic, where she lost in a four-way, three-hole sudden-death playoff to Brittany Lang.
2013 Notes: Choi made 28 starts, making 26 cuts with three top-five finishes. She finished T-5th in the Wegmans LPGA Championship, T-4th in the Mobile Bay LPGA Classic, and T-2nd in the Mizuno Classic. She earned $739,441 and finished 17th on the money list.
2014 Notes: She recorded three top-10 finishes - 2nd in the ISPS Handa Women's Australian Open, 4th in the KIA Classic, and T-8th in the Manulife Financial LPGA. She finished 10th on the LPGA money list and 9th in CME points.
2015 Notes: In 31 starts, she made 23 cuts and was 20th on the money list. Choi was the only player to appear in every LPGA event in 2015. She set a U.S. Women's Open record with a front-nine 29 during Round 3 on Saturday at Lancaster (Pa.) Country Club needed to make a 25-foot birdie putt on the last hole for a record 62. She three-putted however and shot 64. She finished T-20th for the week. She won the Marathon Classic, shooting 65-66 on the weekend to tie Ha Na Jang. She then won with a par on the first playoff hole for her first LPGA victory in her 157th start. Her father, Ji Yeon (a retired Republic of Korea policeman), served as her caddie, and he said he would quit caddying for his daughter after the victory. Even with the win, dad is still on the bag for his daughter.
2016 Notes: Played in 30 LPGA events, making 27 cuts. She was T-5th in the Honda Thailand and T-4th in the HSBC Women's Champions on consecutive weeks. She was T-7th in the Lorena Ochoa Invitational and T-8th in the KPMG Women's PGA Championship. She was 31st on the money list with $604,684 and 24th in CME points.
2017 Notes: Played in 29 LPGA events making 26 cuts, and finished 28th on the money list. She had 4 top-10s, best finish was 3rd in the KPMG Women's PGA Championship, 3 shots back of winner Danielle Kang at Olympia Fields (Ill.) Country Club.
2018 Notes: Played in 29 LPGA Tour events making 23 cuts with four top-ten finishes. Was T-7th at the Bank of Hope Founders Cup and T-7th at the Thornberry Creek LPGA. Earned $414,135 and was 54th on the money list and 51st in the Race to CME.
2019 Notes: Played in 27 LPGA events making 24 cuts with two top-ten finishes. She was 47th on the money list with $452,719 and was 40th on the CME points list. Best finish T-7th KIA Classic and T-9th at the Indy Women in Tech Championship.
2020 Notes: Played in 10 LPGA events making 7 cuts. She was 75th with earnings of $134,194, she was 81st on the CME points list. Best finish, T-17th at the Cambia Portland Classic.
2021 Notes: Played in 23 LPGA Tour events making 15 cuts with four top-ten finishes. Was 57th on the CME Points list finishing 59th on the money list earning $332,977. In her first start of the season was T-8th at the Gainbridge LPGA, T-7th at the Honda LPGA Thailand, and T-5th at the ISPS Handa World Womans she was four back of the Anannarukarn/Talley playoff. Was T-8th at the Walmart NW Arkansas Championship, and she finished her season T-53rd at the CME Group Tour Championship.
2022 Notes: Was T-6th at the DIO Implant L.A. Open.
If she had one last round of golf to play, her foursome would include Mirim Lee, Tiger Woods, and Adam Scott. She lists Se Ri Pak as the person she most admires. Says that if she could play any sport besides golf, it would be basketball.
