Gaby Lopez

Maria Gabriela Lopez Butron started playing golf at age five and qualified for the 2011 U.S. Women's Amateur. Qualified for the LPGA Tour in December of 2015, passing up the second half of her senior season at the University of Arkansas to turn pro, saying it was to increase her chances of representing Mexico in the 2016 Olympics, which she accomplished. She continued to take classes at Arkansas during her rookie LPGA Tour season and graduated with a degree in communications on May 14, 2016.
2014 Notes: Won the 2014 Mexican Women's Amateur by 10 shots. Played in two LPGA Tour events: T-23rd at Lorena Ochoa Invitational. T-57th at Walmart NW Arkansas Championship.
2015 Notes: Earned first-team All-America honors in her junior season at Arkansas and finished T-2nd in the NCAA Championship, shooting a final-round 66 to finish one behind Emma Talley of Alabama. Finished T-3rd in the Mexican Women's Amateur. Played in three LPGA Tour events, making the cut in two. She began the fall playing her senior season at Arkansas but also played in the first two stages of LPGA Q-School as an amateur. After finishing T-10th at the final stage of LPGA Q School, Lopez turned pro and accepted Tour membership.
2016 Notes: Played in 26 LPGA events making the cut in 22. During her rookie season on the LPGA, Lopez continued to take classes at Arkansas. She had her best week of the season with a T-11th at the Volvik Championship and then another T-11th in the U.S. Women's Open. Finished 60th on the money list with $327,031. She T-31st at the Rio Olympics representing Mexico.
2017 Notes: Played in 28 LPGA events making 20 cuts. Best finish T-7th in the ShopRite Classic, also T-10th at the Walmart NW Arkansas Championship. She was 65th on the money list.
2018 Notes: Played in 24 LPGA Tour events making 15 cuts with two top-10 finishes. She won the Blue Bay LPGA in China for her first victory on Tour. Lopez shot 8-under 280 to beat Ariya Jutanugarn by a shot despite bogeys on her last two holes. Lopez became the first Mexican player to win on the LPGA since Lorena Ochoa in 2010. The win came two days after Lopez's 25th birthday. For the year, she won $523,153, which ranked 44th and 32nd in the Race to CME.
2019 Notes: Played in 28 LPGA Tour events making 22 cuts with five top-ten finishes. She was 41st on the money list with $507,171 in earnings and finished 30th in the CME points list. Her first start of the season was T-10th at the Diamond Resorts Tournament of Champions and T-7th at the Kia Classic, four shots back of winner Nasa Hataoka. She was T-5th at the Lotte Championship and T-5th at the HUGEL-Air Premia L.A. Open. Late in the year was T-6th at the Toto Japan Classic.
2020 Notes: Played in 12 LPGA Tour events making 11 cuts with two top-ten finishes. She was 31st on the money list with $370,650 in earnings. Finished 23rd on the CME points list. In the first event of the year, she won the Diamond Resorts Tournament of Champions. Lopez made an 18-foot birdie putt on the last hole to force a playoff with Inbee Park and Nasa Hataoka. Park dropped out after three holes as it took seven holes, and the players had to play the last two holes on Monday morning when Lopez made a birdie on the seventh hole to win. Was T-9th at the KPMG Women's PGA Championship.
2021 Notes: Played in 22 LPGA Tour events making 19 cuts with six top-ten finishes. She was 33rd on the money list with $601,440 in earnings. Finished 31st on the CME points list. In back-to-back weeks was T-7th at the HSBC Women's Champions and T-9th at the Honda LPGA Thailand. Lopez was 3rd at the Volunteers of America Classic, two shots back of winner Jin Young Ko. Lopez was a member of Mexico's women's golf team at the Toyko Olympics and was honored to carry the flag of Mexico in the opening ceremonies. She finished T-38th. In the span of her last four starts of the season, she finished T-6th at both the Cognizant Founders Cup and Pelican Women's Championship and T-9th at the CME Group Tour Championship.
2022: Played in 24 LPGA Tour events, making 18 cuts with three top-ten finishes. She was 35th on the money list with $800,239 in earnings and was 25th in CME points. Finished 3rd at the Hilton Grand Vacations Tournament of Champions, two shots behind winner Danielle Kang. She won the Dana Open, coming back from four shots behind. In the final round, she birdied the last three holes for a 63 and a one-shot victory over Megan Khang. Lopez finished her big run with a 12-foot birdie putt on the par-5 18th. At the Pelican Womens Championship, she shot a final round 67 to finish T-4th, five shots back of the winner Nelly Korda. In the season-ending CME Group Tour Championship, finished 58th.
2023 Notes: Open the season with a T-6th finish at the Hilton Tournament of Champions. Finished T-7th at the Dana Open. She was T-3rd at the Amundi Evian Championship, seven shots back of the winner Celine Boutier.
