Gerina Mendoza

Started playing golf at age 15 and credits her parents and Becky Robertson as the most influential on her career. Her husband, Martin Piller, who plays on the PGA Tour is on the Web.Com Tour in 2017. When she's not playing golf, Gerina likes to play Rock Band, Guitar Hero, dance, and spend time with her family. Says the coolest thing golf has enabled her to do was throw out the first pitch at US Cellular Field for a White Sox vs. Dodgers game. Would like to learn how to play the guitar someday. Has one sister and three brothers. Graduated from UTEP in 2007 with a degree in mathematics.
Played collegiate golf at the University of Texas, El Paso (UTEP), and won four tournaments as a senior in 2007. She was also the 2007 Conference USA Individual champion and Player of the Year and the UTEP Female Athlete of the Year.
Turned pro in 2007, and in 2009, finished 30th at the LPGA Final Qualifying Tournament where she earned Priority List Category 16 for the 2010 LPGA season.
Competed on the Duramed FUTURES Tour, recording seven top-10 finishes, and a career-best T-2nd at both the iMPACT Classic and the USI Championship.
Played her rookie year on the LPGA Tour in 2011, making 14 starts, and her best finish was a T-10th at the Safeway Classic. She married Martin Piller in Jan 2011, he had his PGA Tour card in 2011, 2016, 2018 and & 2019. He has won six times on the Korn Ferry Tour.
2012 Notes: Played 23 events making 17 cuts. Had two top-10 finishes, including T6 at the Wegmans LPGA Championship and T9 at the Kingsmill Championship. Earned $258,395, which placed her 48th on the money list.
2013 Notes: Finished 26th on the Tour money list after making 23 cuts out of 26 events. Recorded eight top-10 finishes including a career-best runner-up at the CME Group Titleholders. Fired a career-low 62 in the third round of the Manulife Financial LPGA Classic. Competed on her first U.S. Solheim Cup Team.
2014 Notes: She was 39th on the money list with $466,497 and 46th in CME points with 22 cuts made in 26 starts. She had five top 10s, her best finish was T-3rd at the ShopRite Classic, seven shots back of winner Stacy Lewis. Her husband, Martin, won the Web.com Tour's News Sentinel Open in Knoxville, Tenn., in August, the same week that Gerina finished T-13th at the Wegmans LPGA Championship. (Martin Piller was 67th on the 2014 Web.com Tour's Finals Series.)
2015 Notes: Piller made 22 cuts in 26 starts and ranked a career-best 18th on the LPGA money list and ninth in CME points. Her six top-10 finishes included T-2nd twice. She shot a 64 in the final round to finish one back of Lexi Thompson at the Meier LPGA Classic and birdied five of the last six holes to finish one behind Cristie Kerr at the season-ending CME Group Tour Championship. The week she finished T-47th at the U.S. Women's Open, her husband Martin won the Boise Open on the Web.com Tour. Piller played on the U.S. Solheim Cup team for the second time and had a 3-0-1 record in the matches, including a key 1-up victory over Caroline Masson as the U.S. took the cup.
2016 Notes: Played in 23 LPGA events making 20 cuts, with 9 top-10 finishes. Recorded the fourth runner-up finish of her career at the VOA Texas Shootout, losing the 54-hole lead with a closing 73. She had a stretch of hitting 41 consecutive greens in that event, ending with the first hole of the final round. Piller also had T-3rds at the Swinging Skirts LPGA Classic and Kingsmill Championship and a pair of T-6ths at the ANA Inspiration and KIA Classic. In another major, KPMG Women's PGA she was T-12th, was T-8th at the U.S. Women's Open, T-50th at the RICOH Women's British Open and T-9th at the Evian Championship. Was 19th on the money list with $842,948 and 30th in CME points. She helped the U.S. win the UL International Crown at the Merit Club. Piller was 1-1-1 in pool play while teamed with Stacy Lewis and won her singles match over Yani Tseng, 5 and 3. She was T-11th at the Rio Olympics as a member of the U.S. Women's golf team. Piller was T-2nd after 3 rounds and in good medal contention, before shooting 74 Sunday to fall short of the medal podium.
2017 Notes: Played in 22 LPGA events making 21 cuts with five top-10 finishes. Started the year with a 4th-place finish at the Pure Silk Bahamas Classic, did it again with a T-4th at the KIA Classic. Was T-3rd at the Marathon Classic she was 6 shots back of winner In-Kyung Kim. Was T-5th at the Cambia Portland Classic, 7 shots back of the winner Stacy Lewis. Was 34th on the money list with $541,977 and 46th in the Race to CME. Played in her 3rd Solheim Cup for Team USA and posted a 2-2-0 record.
2018 Notes: She did not play in 2018 as she gave birth to her first child, a son named A.J. (Ajeo James) on April 26. Her husband, Martin, had his PGA Tour card and was 126th in the FedExCup standings.
2019 Notes: Played in 24 LPGA Tour events making 14 cuts with two top-ten finishes. Was 62nd on the money list with $320,502 in earnings. Was 78th on the CME points list. Made her first start after her leave of 1 year, 3 months, 9 days (466 days) was at the HSBC Women's Champions, she finished 59th. Finished T-5th at the U.S. Women's Open, she was three shot back of winner Jeongeun Lee6. Was T-8th at the Volunteers of America Classic.
2020 Notes: Played in 14 LPGA Tour events making 8 cuts. She was 115th on the money list with $37,411 in earnings, finished 112th on the CME points list. Best finish T-33rd at the Aberdeen Standard Investments Ladies Scottish Open.
2021 Notes: Best finish T-9th at the Marathon Classic.
