Made history with her thrilling 18-hole playoff victory over Angela Stanford and Kelly Robbins at the U.S. Women's Open, becoming one of 14 players in LPGA history to make the U.S. Women's Open her first LPGA victory; she was also the first player in the history of the U.S. Women's Open to win the event after qualifying through local and sectional qualifiers; her $560,000 check was the largest single payout in LPGA history; her husband, Tylar, was her caddie that week.

Lunke has competed in seven U.S. Women's Amateur Championships. In 1997 and 1999, she was the runner-up at the Western Women's Amateur. She was a member of the 2000 U.S. Curtis Cup and World Amateur Teams. While attending Stanford, she was a four-time All-American and won two collegiate titles. In 2001, before turning professional, she was the South Atlantic Amateur champion.
