Jerilyn Britz

Born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, Jerilyn Britz started playing golf at the age of 17 on a nine-hole course in Luverne, Minn. Britz attended Minnesota State University, Mankato (then called Mankato State University) and the University of New Mexico.
Britz spent five years working as a high school teacher and three years as a college instructor before making her LPGA Tour debut at age 30 in 1973.
She was a full-time player between 1973 and 1998, playing in 626 events making 380 cuts. She was in the top-ten 43 times and won twice, at the 1979 U.S. Women's Open and 1980 Mary Kay Classic. Britz also had two runner-up finishes in major championships, at the LPGA Championship in 1979 and 1981. Her best finish on the LPGA Tour was in 1979 the year she won the Women's Open and was 14th on the money list with $68,601. The next year she was 14th on the money list with $68,070. In her 26 year career, she won $579,794.
Since retiring from the competitive golf Britz became a golf instructor at the VIP Golf Academy in Port St. Lucia, Florida between 1998 and 2006. Being an accomplished scuba diver and having a pilot's license she loved the life in Florida. In 2006 she moved back to Luverne to help her mother Alice in her later years. She enjoys and still lives in Luverne, where you can find her playing almost every day on the tree-lined nine-hole Luverne Country Club. She plays to a scratch handicap and still takes a few dollars from the best male players at the club.
