Laurel Kean

She was born in Portland, Maine but at a year old her parents moved to St. Louis before another move to Cleveland where she grew up. Kean began playing golf at age 3 when her stepfather talked her into switching from softball to golf so she could join him on the greens. Kean attended the University of South Florida (USF), where her game started to improve. She won the 1985 USF Invitational and was named a First-Team All-American in 1986.
Kean turned professional in 1987 and played on the Futures Tour, she won nine events in 1987, setting the single-season record, and was named Player of the Year. She qualified for the LPGA Tour by finishing 3rd at the LPGA Final Qualifying Tournament to earn exempt status for the 1988 season.
She played on the LPGA Tour between 1988 and 2005, playing in 373 events and making 180 cuts. She had 14 top-10s, winning once at the 2000 State Farm Rail Classic. She got into the tournament earning the last spot in the Monday qualifier, thus becoming the first Monday qualifier in the LPGA history to win a tournament that way. Even though she played in just nine events making just three cuts, 2000 was her best year as she won $146,811 but didn't play enough events to rank.
Kean retired in 2006 following the State Farm Classic where she missed the cut. When she retired she returned to Ohio and tried out a variety of jobs from working for UPS to delivering newspapers, but none of those jobs were right for her. Later in the year, Kean was at home in Cleveland when she got a call offering her a job as a teaching instructor at La Playa Golf Club in Naples, Fla.
She finished T-16 in the 2018 Senior LPGA Championship.
