Madelene Sagstrom

Sagstrom started playing golf at the age of 11 years old. She was a Swedish national team member, and won the 2008 and 2010 Skandia Cup National Championship and the 2011 Ladies Team Amateur Championship. She was the runner-up at the 2010 Swedish Junior Masters and won the Alex Noren Junior Open in 2011. She finished 17th at the Girls - British Open Amateur Championship.
At LSU, Sagstrom broke through with four top 10s and three top 5s, including a 3rd at the LSU Tiger Golf Classic. She helped lead LSU to the NCAA National Championship in the team competition.
As a sophomore, she was named an All-SEC selection with four top-5 finishes, including back-to-back runner-up results at the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate and the LSU Tiger Golf Classic. She played for Sweden, which finished 8th, at the European Women's Amateur Team Championships.
She improved in her junior year, finally capturing that elusive first collegiate win at The Schooner Invitational. She almost backed that up with another at the LSU Tiger Golf Classic but fell in a playoff. She notched 10 top-10 finishes and eight inside the top 5. In international competition, she helped Sweden finish 6th of 20 teams in the European Women's Amateur Team Championships.
Sagstrom had her best year as a senior when she was named SEC Player of the Year, first-team All-SEC, and an All-American. She helped LSU reach the NCAA Championships for the second time in her four years. She boasted a school-record season average of 71.48 and added eight top-10 finishes to her resume, totaling 18 of them in her career, T-6th all-time at LSU. She scored two victories along the way, at the Allstate Sugar Bowl, where she tied for the win, and earned medalist honors at the NCAA Raleigh Regional. She finished 3rd at the SEC Championship and finished the year ranked No. 2 by Golfweek and Golf Stat Performance.
2016 Notes: Sagstrom excelled on the Symetra Tour after becoming a professional. She played in 15 events, making 14 cuts. She recorded 12 top-10 finishes, including three wins at the Murphy USA El Dorado Shootout, Self Regional Healthcare Foundation Women's Health Classic, and Chico's Patty Berg Memorial. She also had three runner-up finishes. Finished 1st on the money list with a Tour record of $167,064 and was the Tour's Player of the Year.
2017 Notes: In her rookie year, she played in 24 LPGA events making 14 cuts. She was 49th on the LPGA money list in her first year on Tour and had four top 10s. She was T-4th at the Meijer Classic, 3 shots back of winner Brooke Henderson. She was named to the European Solheim Cup team for the first time as a captain's pick by Annika Sorenstam. She was 1-2-0 in the matches won by the U.S. She beat Austin Ernst in singles, 3 and 2. Sagstrom had her best finish of the season with a T-3rd at the Swinging Skirts Taiwan LPGA Championship.
2018 Notes: Played in 22 LPGA Tour events making 13 cuts. She was 78th on the money list with $202,995 in earnings. She was 85th on the CME points list. Best Finish T-15th at the Blue Bay LPGA. She was a member of Sweden's team in the 2018 UL International Crown and was 1-3-0 in the matches.
2019 Notes: Played in 20 LPGA events making 11 cuts with two top-ten finishes. She was 75th on the money list with $216,999 in earnings as she finished 85th on the CME points list. She was T-2nd at the Pure Silk Championship, two shots back of winner Bronte Law. Finished T-9th at the Meijer LPGA Classic.
2020 Notes: Played in 16 LPGA Tour events making 11 cuts with two top-ten finishes. She was 18th on the money list with $492,083 in earnings and finished 16th on the CME points list. Got her season off in grand style by winning the Gainbridge LPGA at Boca Rio by a shot over Nasa Hataoka. Sagstrom shot 62 in the second round and made a birdie on the 17th hole Sunday, while Hataoka missed a 3-foot putt at the last hole that would have forced a playoff. The next best finish was 10th at the VOA Texas Shootout.
2021 Notes: Played in 22 LPGA events making 18 cuts with one top-ten finish. She was 39th on the CME Points list and 24th on the money list, with earnings of $757,699. Was T-2nd at the AIG Women's Open, a shot back of winner Anna Nordqvist. Sagstrom was T-20th at the Toyko Olympics as a member of Sweden's women's golf team. She was named as a captain'�¢s pick for the European Solheim Cup team and was 1-2-0 in the matches, winning her singles match with Ally Ewing 3 & 2. Ended her season T-22nd at the CME Group Tour Championship.
2022 Notes: Played in 24 LPGA Tour events, making 20 cuts with five top-ten finishes. She was 19th on the money list with $1,119,984 in earnings and was 23rd in CME points. She had a stretch of four events, she finished in the top ten. It started when she shot a final round 66 at the DIO Implant L.A. Open to finish T-3rd. Next week was T-9th at the Palos Verdes Championship, followed by a T-3rd at the Cognizant Founders Cup, three shots back of winner Minjee Lee. Then was T-5th at the Bank of Hope LPGA Match-Play, she lost to Eun-hee Ji 7 & 6 in a quarterfinal match. She was T-4th at the AIG Women's British Open, three shots back of the Ashleigh Buhai/In Gee Chun playoff. Was T-13th in the LPGA season-ending CME Group Tour Championship. She was T-2nd at the Aramco Team Series New York event on the LET, finishing three back of winner Lexi Thompson.
2023 Notes: Was T-10th at the Cognizant Founders Cup. Went back to Sweden to play in the Volvo Car Scandinavian Mixed, which is a mixed-gender event on the DP World Tour and LET. Sagstrom finished T-12th, the third-best female finisher. She finished T-9th at the Freed Group Women's Scottish Open, six shots back of the winner Celine Boutier.
