Sandra Gal

Started playing golf at the age of 6. Played her first competitive round at the age of 14. Credits her dad as the individual that influences her career the most. As a talented artist, she worked on a variety of paintings in the off-season to auction for charity. In addition to painting and golf, she was instructed in ballet for 15 years and also plays the violin.
Represented Germany at the European Team Championships from 2003-07 and the World Amateur Team Championship in 2004 and 2006. As a junior, she won the 2003 German Girls Championship and was the Golfer of the Year in Germany the same year. In 2007, she won the Czech Invitational Championship and was the top-ranked amateur in both European and German ranks.
At the University of Florida, Gal won four tournaments, including back-to-back titles at the SunTrust Lady Gator Invitational (2006-07) and was named to the 2007 National Golf Coaches Association (NGCA) All-America First Team. Also named an NGCA Academic All-American from 2005-08.
In 2007, as an amateur, she was T-14th at the LPGA Final Qualifying Tournament to earn exempt status for the 2008 LPGA season. Turned professional immediately following the round.
In 2008, recorded a T-14th at the Ginn Tribute.
In 2009, recorded a career-best T-5th at the LPGA Corning Classic. Carded a career-low 64 in the opening round of the Wegmans LPGA, where she finished T-10th. Tied her career-low 64 during the opening round of the P&G Beauty NW Arkansas Championship, where she finished T-14th.
In 2010, her best finish was a T-11th at the LPGA Tour Championship.
In 2011, earned her first win at the Kia Classic where she defeated Jiyai Shin with a 72nd hole birdie. Additional top-10 finishes included: T-2nd at the CME Group Titleholders, T-5th at the Walmart NW Arkansas Championship where she crossed the $1 million mark in career earnings, T-9th at the Avnet LPGA Classic and T-10th at the RR Donnelley LPGA Founders Cup. She competed on her first European Solheim Cup Team with a 0-2-1 record.
2012 Notes: Played in 26 events, making 23 cuts and earning $574,323. She had two top-10 finishes and recorded a season-best third-place finish at the U.S. Women's Open.
2013 Notes: Played in 25 events, making 20 cuts. She had four top-10s, with a best finish of fourth at the season-ending CME Group Titleholders. She earned $420,137, which placed her 35th on the money list.
2014 Notes: She was 36th on the LPGA money list (her fourth straight year in the top 40) and 13th in CME points. She made 20 cuts in 27 starts and had five top-10 finishes with a best of T-5th at the Meijer Classic. One week prior to finishing T-22nd at the U.S. Women's Open, Gal followed fellow German Martin Kaymer on Sunday during his win at the U.S. Open at Pinehurst No. 2. She poured water on Kaymer on the 18th green after his eight-stroke victory.
2015 Notes: Made 25 cuts (only MC came at the U.S. Women's Open) in 26 starts, was 30th on the money list and 31st in CME Points. She had three top 10s, her best was T-5th at the Blue Bay LPGA. She was named to the European Solheim Cup team for the second time, and was 2-1-1 in the matches at St. Leon Rot in her home country. Gal lost her singles match to Paula Creamer, 4 and 3.
2016 Notes: Played in 26 events on the LPGA, making 21 cuts. Had two top-10s, T-4th Walmart NW Arkansas Championship and T-10th at the TOTO Japan Classic. She was 62nd on the money list with $306,813 and 54th in CME points. She was T-25th at the Rio Olympics as a member of Germany's golf team. Played in three events on the Ladies European Tour and her best finish was T-3rd at the Handa Ladies European Masters.
2017 Notes: She played in 27 LPGA events making 18 cuts with three top-10s. Her best finish on the LPGA Tour was T-7th at the Blue Bay LPGA and T-9th at the Lorena Ochoa Match Play. She lost to Angel Yin, 3 and 2, in the third round. She was second at the Victorian Open on the LET, losing to Melissa Reid on the third hole of a sudden-death playoff after they tied at 16-under 276. She was 59th on the LPGA money list.
2018 Notes: Played in 25 LPGA Tour events making 18 cuts with three top-ten finishes. Finished T-3rd at the Walmart NW Arkansas Championship, 8 shots back of winner Nasa Hataoka. T-5th at the ShopRite Classic, 4 shots back of winner Annie Park. T-10th at the Kingsmill Championship. Gal was 85th on the money list with $41,317 and was 99th in the Race to CME.
2019 Notes: Best Finish T-15th at the Honda LPGA Thailand. Gal announced that the Sandra Gal Children's Center in Miami will open in August The center will help underprivileged children with art, music, and sports.
