Gunner Wiebe

Son of Mark Wiebe, two-time PGA Tour Winner and 2013 Senior Open Champion. "I have a great relationship with both my parents. My wife is incredible too," said Wiebe to the Colorado Golf Association. ."They all individually encourage me to play as much as I can. But my Dad is the only coach I have ever had. My swing is unique, and I manage it myself. My dad wants me to be, me. Then, we get together to fine-tune things."
Wiebe grew up in the Aurora area and won the 2010 CGA Match Play title. Wiebe played on the PGA Tour Latinoamerica tour in 2014 and '15. He was frustrated in trying to play professional golf, and a nasty arm injury nagged him for seven years. In 2016 over Memorial Day weekend just south of Tijuana, Mexico, Wiebe suffered a potentially life-threatening injury that turned out to be very serious. While moving luggage into a vacation home, Wiebe didn't realize that a sliding-glass door had been closed. He walked right through it, and the single-pane, non-tempered glass shattered. In addition to cutting Wiebe's hand, the underside of his upper right arm was sliced very, very deeply. After the stitches were in for 13 days, Wiebe developed a staph infection. Following an extended rehab, Wiebe finally began making full swings of a golf club six weeks after the accident. But while he competed on and off for a while longer in 2016, it wasn't the same.
After a stint working in finance and working as a Uber driver, Wiebe spent three years as an assistant pro at Bel-Air Country Club in Los Angeles. During that time as a club pro, Wiebe won the national title in the 2020 National Car Rental Assistant PGA Professional Championship after claiming victory in both the 2019 and '20 Southern California Assistant PGA Professional Championships. Those victories helped regain his confidence, but he came up short in Korn Ferry Tour Q-school both in 2021 and '22. He has played in just three PGA Tour events, with a best finish of T-47th in the 2022 Barbasol Championship.
Wiebe came up big in DP World Q-school in the summer and fall of 2022. He finished 20th in the second stage in Alicante, Spain, on Nov. 6 and placed 13th in the final stage shortly thereafter. He advanced from stage 1 with a sixth-place showing in England in early September.
2023 Notes: After finishing T-18th at the Fortinet Australian PGA Championship and 17th at the Handa Australian Open, he missed the cut in 14 of his next 15 starts. Wiebe arrived at Belfry with a belief that good results were around the corner. Things fell in place with rounds of 73-71-70, and a final round 66 got him a T-2nd finish at the Betfred British Masters, two shots back of winner Daniel Hillier. Wiebe won Euro278,536 ($302,750) more in that week than during his 13 years as a professional. The runner-up finish also earned Wiebe a spot into the Open Championship, making his first major championship appearance at Hoylake.
