Player Notes: Jerry Haas is in his 24th season as the men's golf coach at Wake Forest University, his alma mater. He has competed in eight PGA Professional Championships, with best finish T-12 in 2006. In his debut in the KitchenAid Senior PGA Championship in 2015, finished T-17 and earned Low Club Professional honors. Winner, 2015 and '18 Carolinas Open, his latter victory made him the oldest (age 54) winner of the event. Haas has coached numerous players who went on to play professionally, including his nephew, Bill Haas and Webb Simpson. Haas was a four-time All-American at Wake Forest, where his brother, Jay, guided the Demon Deacons to back-to-back NCAA Championships in the 1970s and later became a two-time KitchenAid Senior PGA Champion. Haas also is a nephew of 1968 Masters Champion Bob Goalby. A former member of the PGA Tour, Haas played in 153 events from 1985-2005, collecting four top-10 finishes, including a T-5 at the 1991 Deposit Guaranty Golf Classic. He also is a veteran of the Nike Tour (now Korn Ferry Tour) and the European Tour. Haas won three times on the Nike Tour in 1994 and finished ninth on the money list that season. Haas rebuilt the Wake Forest program into a perennial contender for the Atlantic Coast Conference and NCAA Championships. His Deacons have finished in the top 10 at the NCAA Championships four times since 2001, the same year the Deacons were ranked No. 1. Haas operates one of the premier junior golf camps in the country, where in 22 years, 150 attendees have gone on to compete on the NCAA Division I level. Haas was the 1997 Southern Illinois Open champion and competed on the 1985 U.S. Walker Cup Team. Haas also played in the 1985 Masters and finished 31st.
