Jesper Parnevik

Son of Sweden's most popular impressionist-comedian, Bosse Parnevik. At age 15, Parnevik spent 10 days in Myrtle Beach, S.C., and developed an appreciation for life in the United States; he later moved to Palm Beach County, Fla., to attend Palm Beach Junior College in Lake Worth, Fla.
Parnevik turned professional in 1986 and scored four wins in his early years on the European Tour. Based in Florida, he joined the PGA Tour in 1994, subsequently winning five events in his 393 career PGA Tour starts, was also runner-up ten times, and has 55 top-ten finishes. His playing career also includes three Ryder Cup appearances representing Europe (1997, 1999, and 2002) and two runner-up finishes in The Open (1994 and 1997). Most famous for his runner-up finish in the 1994 British Open and his trademark cap with an upturned peak sporting his sponsor's logo. His career-best world ranking of seventh, which he attained on May 14, 2000, was the highest world ranking achieved by a male Swedish golfer until Henrik Stenson reached the top five in Feb. 2007.
In late 2000, Parnevik underwent hip surgery at the persuasion of Greg Norman, who had undergone similar surgery. This sidelined him for two months, but his career has been slowed in recent years due to various injuries, neck, hand, hip, back, and ribs.
Parnevik finished second in the Valero Texas Open in Oct. 2007, losing to Justin Leonard in a playoff. In 2009, after a T-17th at the SAS Masters in Sweden, Parnevik underwent further hip surgery in Vail, Colo., which cut short his 2009 season on the PGA Tour. He also cited the hip injury as the reason for his withdrawal from the PGA Tour Q-School in Dec. 2009.
In 2010, Parnevik missed cuts in his first three tournaments and had to withdraw again after a first round of 68 at the Northern Trust Open because of an ailing back. He had emergency surgery where it was discovered that he had broken lumbar vertebrae that could put his career in jeopardy.
Parnevik played the 2011 PGA Tour season on a fully exempt status for his Top-50 All-Time Earnings ranking. He was allowed to reuse this one-time exemption after being able to play only five tournaments in 2010. He played the 2012 and 2013 seasons on a Medical Extension after suffering a severe injury to his right hand in a boating accident, with the consequences for his career being unknown. He fought back, and, in 2014, made just one cut in three PGA Tour starts. Finished T-65th in the Puerto Rico Open. The season ended in July due to a broken rib caused by driving a Segway around a tree, which caused him to lose his balance and fall on the handle.
Upon turning 50 in 2015, he played in his first PGA Tour Champions event in Tucson and finished T-42nd. Finished T-4th in the rain-shortened Greater Gwinnett Championship after posting rounds of 68-69 and the next week finished T-10th in the Bass Pro Shops Legends, teaming up with Tommy Armour III. For the year, Parnevik finished 51st on the money list and 55th in the Schwab rankings.
2016 Notes: Earned his first PGA Tour Champions victory in early May when he was a four-shot winner over David Frost, Jeff Maggert, and Mike Goodes in the Insperity Invitational. Shared the 36-hole lead with Maggert, but made five birdies in an eight-hole stretch to take command and win for the first time in a Tour event since his 2001 win at the Honda Classic, a span of 15 years, 1 month, 27 days. In 22 events for the year, had four top-tens including a T-3rd in the Chubb Classic, 5th in the Shaw Charity Classic, and T-8th in the Charles Schwab Cup Championship. Was 26th on the money list and 16th in the Schwab Rankings.
2017 Notes: Played in 22 events with 3 top-tens. Finished T-16th at PowerShares QQQ Championship but his effort was not good enough to earn one of the 36 spots in the Charles Schwab Cup Championship. He finished 37th on the points list and 43rd on the money list. Best finish, T-5th at the Japan Airlines Championship and Pure Insurance Cup.
2018 Notes: Played in 24 PGA Tour Champions events with four top-ten finishes. Was T-7th at the Boca Raton Championship and T-3rd at the Rapiscan Systems Classic. Was T-8th at the Dominion Energy Charity. Finished 41st in the Charles Schwab Cup.
2019 Notes: Played in 16 PGA Tour Champions events with one top-ten finish. Was 59th in the final Schwab Rankings. T-4th with partner Jeff Maggert at the Bass Pro Shops Legends of Golf. Best individual finish, T-12th at the Senior PGA Championship.
2020 & 2021 Notes: Played in 21 PGA Tour Champions events with five top-25 finishes and was 75th in the Charles Schwab Cup. Best finish T-15th in the 2020 Hoag Classic.
