Peter Uihlein

Uihlein was born in New Bedford, Massachusetts, and grew up in Mattapoisett, Massachusetts. His father, Wally Uihlein, is the former chairman and chief executive officer of the Acushnet Company, a golf equipment manufacturer which comprises Titleist and other brands. At age 13, Uihlein moved to Bradenton, Florida, to attend the David Leadbetter Golf Academy, part of IMG Academy's Pendleton School. He was named Player of the Year by the American Junior Golf Association (AJGA) in 2005 and again in 2007, becoming the fifth male in the award's history to win more than once, joining a list that includes Phil Mickelson and Tiger Woods. Uihlein was featured in a 2006 Sports Illustrated article spotlighting then-teenage athletes including Tyreke Evans, A.J. Green and John Tavares.
In 2007, Uihlein won the Terra Cotta Invitational. In 2008, Uihlein chose to attend Oklahoma State University, where he struggled with his game for a long stretch during his freshman year. Nonetheless, he was named to the 2009 USA Walker Cup Team and posted a 4-0 record for the victorious USA squad. He won the Dixie Amateur in December and became the No. 1 player in the World Amateur Golf Ranking in May 2010. After runner-up finishes at the Big 12 Championship and the NCAA Division I Men's Golf Championships, Uihlein won the Sahalee Players Championship by seven strokes.
On his 21st birthday, he defeated David Chung in the final of the 2010 U.S. Amateur at Chambers Bay, 4 and 2. Also advanced to the quarterfinals of the 2011 U.S. Amateur at Erin Hills, losing to Jordan Russell. Also played on the 2011 USA Walker Cup Team at Royal Aberdeen.
Quarterfinalist in 2009 U.S. Amateur and finished second in the 2010 NCAA In 2012, he wasn't able to get through the PGA Tour Qualifying tournament so he went over to play on the European Tour and Challenge Tour. Fulfilled the potential he had shown as an amateur when he won the Madeira Island Open in May 2013 by two shots. Shot a final round 68 to take the title and improve his exemption to a full European Tour Member. Until that point had only a Challenge Tour category, but the victory meant he could play the rest of the season on The European Tour, and he came tenth in the Aberdeen Asset Management Scottish Open having been in contention until the last few holes. Finished the year 14th on the Race to Dubai with euro1,360,268. Was able to finish 6th at the 2013 Puerto Rico Open on the PGA Tour.
One of the oddities of Uihlein is that he is the journeyman of golf, other than his membership on the European Tour, he has never been a member of the PGA or Web.com Tour. Traveling has never bothered him as he chalks up more miles each year that the average play on the PGA Tour does. During the 2013 season got the 60th spot in the world rankings which help him gain entry into a lot of tournaments. Unfortunately his position went down, he fell out of the top-100 in June of 2014 then fell out of the top-200 in July of 2015. After the Memorial Tournament in 2017 he climbed back to 149th in the rankings.
2014 Notes: In 15 worldwide starts has only made the cut in three events, best finish was T-16th at the Commercialbank Qatar Masters. Has not completed 72 holes since his T-25th at the WGC-Cadillac Championship. Since climbing into the 60th spot in the World Rankings after his T-5th at the 2013 BMW Masters, has spiraled down to 111th place just before the Scottish Open
2015 Notes: Played in 30 events around the world, best finish was T-4th at the Shenzhen International and Turkish Airlines Open. Played in 26 European Tour events and finished 47th in the Race to Dubai earning euro741,787.
2016 Notes: Played in 14 European Tour events making the cut in six with three top-ten finishes. Best was 4th at the True Thailand Classic and T-4th at the Handa Perth International. Was 126th in the Race to Dubai with earnings of euro207,810.
2017 Notes: Was T-7th at the BMW SA Open, T-5th at the Dubai Desert Classic 4th at the Tshwane Open. On the PGA Tour was T-5th at Puerto Rico. Got his spot into the Open Championship with a 2nd place finish, one shot back of winner Tommy Fleetwood at the French Open. Finished T-44th at the Open Championship. At the end of the year won the Nationwide Children's Hospital Championship. on the Web.Com Tour. That win got him his PGA Tour card for 2018. Played 7 times on the PGA Tour but his main focus was on the European Tour, played in 22 events making 19 cuts with 6 top-ten finishes, he finished 18th in the Race to Dubai.
2018 Notes: Has finished 5th, three times: WGC-HSBC Champions, Wells Fargo, and Memorial.
