Began playing the game of golf around 14 years old, but didn't start playing competitively until he was 16 and in high school. Credits his dad for introducing him to the game. Says his most memorable golf experience was going to Scotland with his parents while he was in high school, and then going again with his family in 2011. Has two sons, Trevor and Drew, with wife, Dawn. Teaches a weekly golf clinic called "Operation Game On," which teaches combat-wounded military veterans the game as part of their rehab. When he's not golfing, he enjoys playing poker, reading and spending time with "Operation Game On."
Norby has been the Director of Instruction for the National University Golf Academy since it opened in 2009.
After playing in the 1985 and '86 U.S. Amateurs, he turned professional in 1987 and played on the mini-tours until a wrist injury slowed him down. After college, Ted worked on his game with a number of instructors, including Hank Haney and Eddie Merrins. Ted started working with Kip Puterbaugh on his game in 1988 and started playing better in bigger tournaments, winning a number of events along the way.
During his career, Ted qualified for some PGA Tour events, as well as the 1990 U.S. Open. Turning to teaching golf full-time in 1992, Ted found a passion for finding ways for beginners, novices and experts to enjoy the game more. Ted?s pupils include PGA Tour winner Dennis Paulson, LPGA Tour winner Eun Jung Yi, collegiate All-American Aaron Goldberg, and highly-ranked junior Rachel Morris. Ted has had articles in Golf Tips Magazine and was one of Maximum Golf?s young gun instructors. Golf Digest just put Ted on their list of top instructors for California at No. 18.
