Eric Axley

Began playing golf at age 14, after having played national level baseball and basketball growing up. Almost gave up the game after a mountain-biking accident in the late 90s. Two-time Tear Drop Tour Champion. Took home his first ever Hooters Tour win and first professional win since 1997 when he made an eagle on the first playoff hole to win in 2002. Two-time Hooters Tour champion in 2002. Won the Capitol City Open in 2003. In 2005, one of three lefties to advance to the PGA Tour from the Web.Com Tour, joining Greg Chalmers and Bubba Watson. In second start of season and sixth career start on the Web.Com Tour, the Monday qualifier captured his initial victory at the Rex Hospital Open in Raleigh, N.C. Only player in the field to post four rounds in the 60s. Became the Tour's third left-handed winner (Vic Wilk and Steve Flesch). Closed season with a runner-up finishes at The Nationwide Tour Championship, which propelled him from No. 27 on the money list to No. 16.
2005 Web.com Summary: Tournaments Entered - 21; In Money - 14; Top-10 Finishes - 4; Scoring Average - 70.46 (Rank 19th); Money - $227,997 (Rank 16th); Best Finish, winner Rex Hospital Open.
2006 Notes: Fresh off the Web.com Tour, rookie earned first PGA Tour victory at Valero Texas Open and surpassed $1 million in earnings on the season. Jumped from No. 183 to No. 73 over the course of the final month and made the cut in nine of final 10 starts. Added a T-3rd at the Chrysler Classic of Greensboro. After minimal success in his first 26 starts, became the eighth left-hander to win in PGA Tour history at the Valero Texas Open. After playing his first 14 holes 1-over par, played his final 58 holes 16-under and went a stretch of 53 holes without making a bogey.
2007 Notes: Struggled during the season with 18 cuts made in 36 starts. Best finish of the year came at the PODS Championship, a T-19th Axle finished 145th in the FedEx race and 156th on the money list.
2008 Notes: In 35 PGA Tour events make 22 cuts and finished in the top-ten, 3 times. Best finish was a pair of T-4ths, John Deere Classic and Legends Reno-Tahoe. Was 63rd on the FedEx Cup and 116th on the money list.
2009 Notes: Made the cut in just seven of 30 starts on the PGA Tour and failed to record a top-25 finish, best finish T-42nd at Zurich Classic. Was 206th in the FedEx Cup race and 208th on the money list.
2010 Notes: Playing out of the Past Champion category, managed just six starts. T-63rd at the U.S. Open was his best outing among two made cuts. Missed the cut in all five starts on the Web.com Tour.
2011 Notes: Only played twice missing the cut in both events on the PGA Tour.
2012 Notes: Finished T-49th at the True South Classic for his only cut made in 3 PGA Tour starts.
2013 Notes: Missed the cut and withdrew in his only two PGA Tour starts. Made two of six cuts on the Web.com Tour, best finish T-49th South Georgia Classic.
2014 Notes: In 10 PGA Tour starts made the cut seven times, best finish T-12th at the Barracuda Championship. Finished 184th in the FedEx Cup race. Played in the four Web.Com Tour Finals, best finish T-12th at the Chiquita Classic. He earned $36,311 which was enough by $32 to get the 50th and final PGA Tour card.
2015 Notes: Made 21 PGA Tour starts and made seven cuts. Best finish T-22nd at the McGladrey Classic and Puerto Rico Classic, he was 189th in the FedEx Cup race. Made 6 Web.Com Tour starts, best finish T-9th at the Small Business Connection Championship and in a bit of bad luck was 51st missing his PGA Tour card by $394.
