Brett Rumford

Born and raised in Perth, Western Australia, he started playing golf aged eight and won as an amateur on his native PGA Tour of Australasia in 1999. Turning professional in 2000, Brett has had an illustrious career in both in Australia and on the European and Asian Tours.
Enjoyed the best two weeks of his career in the spring of 2013 when he won back-to-back events in the Far East. Claimed the Ballantine's Championship after an eagle three at the first extra hole of a sudden-death play-off beat out Marcus Fraser and Peter Whiteford. Seven days later he won the Volvo China Open, this time cruising to a four-shot victory. Those were his fourth and fifth European Tour victories and first since 2007, when he won the Omega European Masters at Crans-sur-Sierre, chipping in at the first extra hole of a sudden-death playoff to see off England's Phillip Archer. Previous triumphs were at the dual-ranking St. Omer Open in 2003 and the Irish Open in 2004, when his experience from growing up in Perth "the third windiest city in the world" stood him in good stead over the testing links at Baltray. As an amateur, he won the 1999 ANZ Players Championship in Australia the week after Aaron Baddeley did exactly the same in the Australian Open ââ?¬â?? the first time two amateurs had won successive professional events. Rumford has played on the European Tour since 2000 and prior to the Open has been in 408 events.
2014 Notes: Played in 23 events and was in the money 10 times. Best finish was T-10th at the Volvo Golf Champions, he finished 114th in the Race to Dubai. Had his best finish of the year back in Australia finished 3rd in the Emirates Australian Open.
2015 Notes: Rumford had a terrible start to his year, in his first six events his best finish was T-38th. After the Tshwane Open in March, which he missed the cut, he got sick thinking it was food poisoning. But the condition worsened and doctors found a partial blockage in his small intestine which required surgery to remove 30 centimeters of his small intestine. It had been thought that Rumford would miss the rest of the season as he recovered, but he was back exercising a few weeks after the operation and played at the BMW PGA Championship, missing the cut there and at the Irish Open. After playing in the Open Championship and finishing T-74th he took almost 4 months off. He returned to play on the Australian Tour winning the TX Civil & Logistics WA PGA Championship. Also finished T-6th at the UNIQLO Masters and T-8th at the Emirates Australian Open.
2016 Notes: Played mostly on the European Tour playing in 25 events, making 12 cuts. He was in the top-ten, twice finishing 7th in back to back weeks at the Tshwane Open and ISPS Handa Perth International. He finished 118th in the Race to Dubai. He ended his season with a 5th place finish in the Australian PGA Championship.
2017 Notes: Played in 22 events on the European Tour and he made the cut in 10 events. He had a win at the Handa World Super 6 Perth in the events first year with a format of match play over the weekend. He finished 106th in the Race to Dubai. Thanks to his Perth victory and a T-12th finish at the Emirates Australian Open he won the Australasia order of merit.
2018 Notes: Best finish T-5th at the Open de Espana.
