When he did not earn his PGA Tour card, Maggert played overseas for several years. He returned to compete on the Korn Ferry Tour in 1990. Maggert earned his exemption to the PGA Tour after being named the Player of the Year, and as the leading money winner on the Korn Ferry Tour that year with $108,644, he was the first Player to surpass the $100,000 mark on the Korn Ferry Tour. He won the 1980 Texas State Junior and was an All-American at Texas A&M in 1986.
Member of the 1995 and 1997 Ryder Cup Team and the 1994 Presidents Cup Team.
1990 Korn Ferry Tour Summary: Tournaments entered - 22; in money - 17; top-10 finishes - 13; scoring average 70.02 (ranked first); money $108,644 (ranked first); won the Knoxville Open & Buffalo Open.
Played full-time on the PGA Tour between 1991 and 2014. Between 1991 and 2007, he finished in the top-125 of the money list. He has played in 615 events with three wins, 16 runner-up finishes, and 12 third-place finishes. He has made 369 cuts and finished in the top 10 176 times, accumulating earnings of $19.4 million.
He became the 17th Player in PGA Tour Champions history to win in his debut when he edged Billy Andrade by two strokes for the Mississippi Gulf Resort Classic title. Holed a 45-foot, uphill, left-to-right breaking putt for a birdie at Fallen Oak's 17th hole just moments before Andrade made a bogey in the group behind him. As a result, Maggert went on to win by two shots. Became the first debut winner on the PGA Tour Champions circuit since Rocco Mediate at the 2012 Allianz Championship. He became the youngest winner at 50 years, 1 month, and 3 days since John Huston at the 2011 Dick's Sporting Goods Open. The win in Mississippi also ended a drought of more than seven-plus years since his last PGA Tour title at the 2006 FedEx St. Jude Classic and also made him just the seventh Player to win tournaments on all three Tours.
2014 Notes: Joined the PGA Tour Champions in late March, playing in 12 events and finishing among the top 10 in half of his starts with his big win at the Mississippi Gulf Resort Classic. He finished T-3rd at the 3M Championship in August in Minnesota. In September, he finished fifth at the Pacific Links Hawai'i Championship, which helped him clinch a spot among the top 30 money-winners. He finished 21st on the money list and 19th in the Schwab Rankings. He made 19 PGA Tour appearances and eight cuts. He was in contention down the stretch at the Travelers Championship, eventually finishing T-7th.
2015 Notes: Had a stellar year with four wins, including two major championships (Regions Tradition, U.S. Senior Open) and more than $2 million in earnings. He won his first event of the year and first major championship when he defeated Kevin Sutherland in a one-hole playoff at Shoal Creek. He claimed his second major title when he held off a handful of challengers Sunday at the U.S. Senior Open at Del Paso CC. Began the final round tied for the lead with Bernhard Langer, with four other major championship winners all within one stroke of the lead. Shot 5-under-par, 65 for the victory, earned him a check for $675,000, the largest of his senior career. The win was also worth an invitation to the 2016 U.S. Open at Oakmont CC. He added a third victory at the Shaw Charity Classic. He claimed his fourth win of the year two starts later when he prevailed by two shots at Dick's Sporting Goods Open. Win also put him past the $2-million mark and, for the year, earned $2,240,836 (2nd best), the biggest single-season earnings in his career. He played at the PGA TOUR's Puerto Rico Open but missed the cut. He was named the GWAA Senior Player of the Year.
