Alister Balcombe

He was a member of the Somerset Under-18 team between 2012-2014 before moving up to the men's team in 2013. He has twice been crowned Clevedon Golf Club Champion in 2012 and 2014, while he was the club's junior champion three times in 2010, 2012 and 2013.
Balcombe went on to SGS Filton College has just completed his first year of golf scholarship at Iowa Western College. At the end of his freshman year, Balcombe was picked for the National Junior College Athletic Association Division One All-American team.
His golf coach at Iowa Western Community College, Derrick Thompson, was one of the first to congratulate Balcombe after qualifying at Royal Cinque. He said: "He doesn't let bad things happen. He might hit a bad drive, but he'll never follow that up with a bad second. He just keeps himself in it."
Balcombe's driving ability off the tee is another strength, added Thompson.
"He drives it very far and very straight. Just getting started on every hole is an advantage because he's 30 or 40 yards ahead of a lot of people and he's in the middle of the fairway."
More than anything, Thompson wants his standout golfer to enjoy this rare opportunity.
Thompson added: "We're incredibly proud and happy for him. He is going to have the absolute experience of his lifetime.
