Andreas Halvorsen

Andreas Halvorsen is a 22-year-old former Norwegian national team member currently playing on the PGA Tour Latinoamerica.
In 2014, Halvorsen decided to forgo college to try his hand at the second stage of Web.com Tour Q-School at age 17, with an eye on turning pro soon after. The experience, one that saw him finish several shots short of advancing, was an eye-opener. "I wasn't as ready for a stage like this back then. Mentally I wasn't prepared as I am now," Halvorsen said in 2018. He joined the PGA Tour Latinoamerica in 2016 after he rose to become one of the top juniors in the U.S. thanks in part to a move to St. Augustine, Fla., in 2013 to train at the Tom Burnett Junior Golf Academy.
His best finish on the PGA Tour Latinoamerica money list came in 2018 as he placed 20th.
2019 Notes: Has made 7 cuts in 8 PGA Tour Latinoamerica events, including a T-2nd finish at 60 Abierto Mexicano de Golf. He currently ranks No. 8 on the Order of Merit.
Halvorsen had quite the journey to qualify for his first U.S. Open this year. He entered the sectional qualifier in Newport Beach, Calif. thinking it was just up the freeway from Tijuana Country Club, where his tour visited two weeks prior. Unfortunately, another stop in Cancun for the Bupa Match Play followed, forcing Halvorsen to take a late flight. He arrived at 1 a.m. with an 8:10 a.m. tee time at Big Canyon. "About four hours," he said in response to the inevitable sleep question.
Carrying his bag for 36 on courses he'd never seen, Halvorsen posted 69-65 to cruise through before heading back to LAX for a 9:45 p.m. flight. But he already had a commitment from his 24-year old brother to fly from Germany to caddie, while his parents, who also live in Florida and have supported their son since he turned pro in 2015, were in flight from Mexico and still unaware their son had made it to the U.S. Open.
