Andrew Dorn

Player Notes:

Started playing golf around the age of two years old and credits his father, Tom, for introducing him to the sport. Says his most memorable golf experience was receiving the call from the USGA informing him that he had a spot in the U.S. Open after Thomas Bjorn withdrew with neck and shoulder injuries.
Before committing to play golf at Coastal Carolina, had a very successful junior golf career. At one time was ranked No. 4 on the Ohio Junior Golf Rankings. Finished 3rd out of 74 golfers in the AJGA Franklin (Tenn.) Junior Classic where he shot 75-68-68 and 11th out of 113 players at the Bubba Conlee National. Placed 5th at the 2010 Ohio Division 1 State Championship his senior year and tied for 2nd the year before. Earned All-State First-Team honors both years. Was a two-time Greater Catholic League Player of the Year. Led his high school, Archbishop Moeller, to a 6th place finish at the 2010 Team State Championships after they had become the first to win the Greater Catholic League Championship, City Championship, Sectional and District Championship all in one season. Was a three-time winner on the Plantations Junior Golf Tour.
As a freshman at Coastal Carolina, averaged 76.29 strokes over his 24 rounds and his best finish came in a tie for 18th at the Insperity Augusta State Invitational. Was named to the 2011-12 Big South Presidential Honor Roll for posting at least a 3.0 GPA that academic year.
Made strides his sophomore season where he was voted a spot on the All-Big South and Big South All-Championship Teams. Dropped his scoring average to 73.87 which was good for second-best on the team. Had five top-10 finishes and three top-5's. Was runner-up at the Seahawk Intercollegiate and Furman Triangular. Carded a 75 in the final round of the NCAA Baton Rouge Regional to propel Coastal to 5th place and to qualify for the NCAA Championships.
In the summer of 2013, Dorn won the 113th North and South Men's Amateur which was held at Pinehurst #2. A perk of winning that event is the winners receive their own permanent lockers in the clubhouse. He also won the Ohio Amateur after shooting 66-69-73 and qualified for the U.S. Amateur where he shot back-to-back 74's.
This past year as a junior, Dorn led the Chanticleers with a 73.28 scoring average and claimed his first collegiate win at the General Hackler Championship with an even-par 216. He became the school's first player to win the program's own tournament in the event's 13-year history. Placed 7th at the Big South Championships and 6th at the ETSU's Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate. Was a two-time winner of Big South Golfer of the Week. Posted four rounds in the 60's and had four top-10 finishes. Earned an at-large berth to the NCAA Raleigh Regional where he tied for 15th. Named 2014 All-Big South.
When he's not playing golf, Andrew enjoys playing and watching all other sports. He also really likes music and attends several country music concerts whenever possible. He is die-hard Cincinnati Reds and Bengals fan and carries around a lucky buckeye in his golf bag at all times that his grandpa gave him. Plans on returning to Coastal Carolina as a senior for 2014-2015.
